Picked up a complete marine y block today for the 30 coupe . Has anyone here have experience with them . I think it is a 292 from 1962 # C2AE and has S heads on it . Also it has the crazy looking sidedraft carb setup that im probably not going to use . I might use this motor just for parts and get another y block to build that has pulleys and all the right car parts .
I didn't check your numbers against Mummert's site but that "crazy side draft carb set-up" is something that a lot of Y-Blockers would kill for.
Why ? Looks ? Performance ? This motor is fairly complete right down to the main beams that have been cut out of the boat . Trying to find out what boat this came out of .
Probably a Dearborn Interceptor Marine engine. Used in some model Chris-Craft boats, Higgins, Century, Buehler Turbocraft, and others. Came in 272, 292, and 312 cu. in.
you should have the block sonic checked. was it possible the boat ran in salt water? If so it may have more than the usual rust in coolant p***ages. I see the marine sidedraft setups on ebay regularly, I personally don't know of any y guys who would mess with them because of their limitations, but they are unique looking. I did see one that was all polished on a t roadster that was nice, but again not that efficient. The aluminum timing cover is desirable to some racers.
forgot to say the heads you have are replacement. you can find this info here http://www.ford-y-block.com/cylinderheadchart.htm You can also see a photo of the T I mentioned with the marine carbs, pretty trick setup.
Hi, The marine Y-Block I have is a '57 292 or 312 with '59 292 heads. It is complete from the air cleaners, the aluminum front cover, valley pan and oil pan. The mill was in a cabin cruiser built by Interceptor boats of Malvern Pa. It is going in my channelled '31 "A" Coupe on one of Bleed's Aceholwe frames. 41 Dave
