Want to raise the front end on a 60 Chevy, give it the g***er look, really don't want to put a straight axle under it, any ideas? Will be done by me, myself and I!!!
use those twist knuckles that you install in the front coil springs with a 1/2 breaker bar and extension and they are easy to remove if you dont like it
check out some of the web sites for those donk cars they have all kinds of stuff to raise cars. i bought coil spacers for front and rear quality pieces for $100
Working in the front end shop back in the 70's,we installed cadillac coils in lots of chevelles and camaros.I put a pair in my 58 biscayne,my 62 biscayne and 64 impala SS. That was a long time ago,I cant remember what year or model caddy the springs were made for.
i dont really see how wagon springs will raise it that much, especially since your talkin 50 yr old springs. but on a side note, if you decide to really want a set of wagon springs, i just happen to pull mine out of my kingswood yesterday to bag it, so i have a set of used old stock , uncut springs. i also have some 62 and 63 cadillac springs if you think you can make those work.
We always called them KNUCKLE BUSTERS,,for good reason,,,they slip when trying to inseall them. TheY were real common back in the 60's because most of the mag wheels had too much off set to the outside so you would have to raise the front some for clearence. HRP
Most guys did run Wagon springs back when that look was popular or they were racing and wanted the front end up in the air for weight transfer. If you have a good spring shop in the area you might see about having a set made for it. There isn't a lot of difference in overall diameter in different GM big car springs from the 60's and 70's so you might experiment with front springs from a bigger heavier car and see what happens. From years of experience some of them can be a challenge to get in place if they are very much taller or stronger. I was looking through this states equipment guide lines the other day and they have outlawed those twist in spacers in this state. Probably because they pop out so easy and end up in someone's windshield behind you.
Station wagon springs, big block springs IE springs from a 348 car as opposed to a 6 cylinder or small block car. I have put a rubber spacer on top of the spring that seems to work well.
