So I have been looking for an early 60's cadillac for quite a while now. Drove to Milwaukee a few weekends ago and didn't find what I wanted so I kept looking. Well a week after we get back a buddy calls me and tells me about this car. I go look at the car and it is the cream of the crop. It was a 1 owner car that had been sitting in a garage for about 40 years. The original owner died and the son decided he was going to get it running along with a few other cars. So he brought it down to a hot rod shop in town. Well he doesn't pay for any of the work done on the first two cars so the owner of the shop decided to put a lean on this car. The guy never comes through with the money so the mechanic gets the title and the rest is history. So I call the guy that owns the rod shop as this is sitting out. He says its mine! I couldn't get the money fast enough to him. The interior is perfect and all there. The body is almost completely flawless (original paint). The car was basically in a time capsule. Enjoy! Notice the gravemarker from the original owner in the trunk... what do i do with that!??
Will do... All I have had for the last few years was my Ls1 Camaro SS. I have been dying to work on some old iron again! Anyone have a good place for some caddy parts in that year range? I really want to put new bushings/tie rods/brakes throughout since it has been sitting so long. Also want to replace the dash pad as it is cracked and the carpet. Any help with that would be MUCH appreciated
lol... ya, its hard to believe the son let the car go! Oh well, his loss is my gain! Its got a good home now.
It is so perfect, man I would be hard pressed to do to much more than an intense detail and killer tune up. What work was done on it? Does it run? Did they go through the brakes? Very cool find, you are one lucky guy. chuck
Lucky bastard! What an great find, and an amazing price! X2 on the idea of making the grave marker a 'club plaque'.
Yeah... Overall the car is in absolutely excellent shape. The roof has a few spots of light surface rust. The body itself is remarkably excellent with nothing more than a few cracks in the paint in a few spots. I don't really want to buff it because I'm afraid that would screw that up. A car this solid I kind of am under the belief that it either should stay aged or have an excellent paint job on it (not some junk one). Was thinking about cleaning up the body and repainting the roof is all. I'll post up more pics as I get back to where I am storing the car.
Great deal! I had several 60's over the years.Wish I still had the limo.Enjoy it.Awesome car & great shape.
Yeah, the only problem with those caddies is its tough to find much info on them. Although that can be said about most cars on this site probably.
I am totally amazed at the condition of the stainless trim and bumpers. They are all in beautiful condition, You are correct, knowing how much to do is the question. It's only original once. chuck
ya... the only issue with any of the chrome is the front bumper has some speckles of of rust... thinking about having them rechromed someday... but then again, maybe not. I really wanna drive this thing cross country at some point.
man that car is tooo shweet the owners kid should walk to the nearest tatoo shop an have a large L put on his forhead for that screw up
There's a few placed that ALWAYS rusts on the '60 Cadillac to watch out for - mostly pot metal (like across the lip of the trunk lid, and the cowl vent). Also, the tips of the turn signal spears always get ripped off when someone slides past 'em and they snag a shirt. And watch out for the grille bullets. A removal tool IS available, but that's a 200+ piece grille. LOL! And check out those floors (panels are available new). I say buff it out and drive it as-is, if it checks out.
Sweet score, love me some early '60s Caddies. Check out usapartssupply.com they have reproductions of all the old shop manuals and owners manuals, they also have a lot of parts. Or there is a all vintage Cadillac wrecking yard in the Phoenix area that I have gotten a ton of good used parts from. I just cant remember thier name. All I have to say is who the hell is Howard? May be some bad juju lurking around that car. Haha. -Mike
No doubt, but I can't figure a "rod shop" letting this go for 8 bills (unless they bring a lot less out west). Good for you though. Nice score.
