After the 2k primer and body work, I sealed it with epoxy primer. The pics will show the clouds in the paint, I have never had this happen to me before. Is the base coat orange going to cover these clouds?? I could see the clouds when the car was primered with the 2k light gray, so i painted the spots with 2k black primer and blocked it out. Then a sealed it with epoxy and the clouds are still there. I would really like some advice on what to do next. Thanks Camm
my experiances with the epoxy primer/ sealer have been the same,i've noticed that it's mostly the differance in the plastic and sheet metal, and I've sprayed base coats, candies, and pearls over the spots and had no problems, scuff it or resand it and start sprayin,Good luck .......Rich
I had the same situation but in a different order. I used epoxy primer first, and seen the same "clouds" you did, but after blocking and then reshooting with high build urethane, all the "clouds" disappeared. I am confident that after the sanding and prep with the urethane and sealer. I will have an even base for color.
Looks like moisture in the surface or the epoxy (From the air lines) I've had this before. Damp days usually. I would scuff the Epoxy and put a coat or two of 2K sealer over the epoxy. Something close to your colour and spray your topcoats. It's weird how epoxy will do this sometimes. Oh Yes, the joys of Painting!! The Old Tinbasher
Ok, you have a couple of things you need to do differently. Epoxy primer needs to be sprayed over bare metal that has been striped/sandblasted. This seals the metal from the elements/moisture. Then over the epoxy primer do your filler and then use urethane primer as the final sealer/sandable surface primer. If you do it the other way (urethane underneath the epoxy) the urethane is still venting when you seal it with the epoxy. This will trap the solvents beneath the epoxy, since the solvents can't get through the epoxy. I've seen correctly catalysed filler become soft under this same scenerio as well as the mystery clouds you are showing. Dan Stevens dba, Steelsmith
ive seen sealers and epoxies do this. it ghosts the spot primers. what was ur steps for prepping original paint and spots u sanded. did put the 2k over an unsanded areas while spot priming? honestly, y are u using black as a base for going over with orange base? white or light grey would have been better. or better yet a tinted sealer. let that dry, sand it, use hok koseal white tinted with orange candy, then do the orange. works awesome for coverage.
If it's been sittin' for 6 months with the urethane on there and you just shot the epoxy a day or two ago, I don't have a clue why that is?! Good luck on that one! Dan Stevens dba, Steelsmith
The black on the car is a primer/sealer(add reducer)....Should i spray a 2k primer over the sealer at this point???????????? or just spray the top coat orange?
My brother had this same problem when he shot his 50 ford with primer. There was no filler where the clouds appeared. We had prepped it correctly. It wasn't humid that day. The primer was "Hot Rod Primer" and was what I can describe as a very generic RTS primer that they (the paint shop) really tried to push. It didn't really look, smell, or flow normal but was priced closer to our range than the better stuff. The clouds just appeared sometime within the next week. They didn't grow or diminish in size...just showed up from one day to the next. The clouds seemed to have a sort of "depth" to them. We sanded it back down and resprayed with other stuff about a year after. Didn't happen again. I think it might be in the product, but I have no idea what it could be. That was the first time I'd seen it and you're the only other person I've heard this happen to. Good Luck, Brian
