    Hi y'all,

First, I hope I filled out my profile nice and proper. Don't want to get booted out before I get in. [IMG] My name is Jan and I've loved real rods and customs since the early Hot Rod Mag days. The thing is that the rods I actually grew up around were '39 Fords and '37 Chevys with numbers on their sides going to war on the local dirt ovals. So I'm a tad warped toward circle trackin'. In fact, I took my high school graduation money and bought a '53 Ford stocker with a flathead. I raced with some..but not a lot of success until '96 when the big money pushed me out.

Anyway, I'm gettin' ready to start my first true street project...a running '64 Ford Custom 2-door post named Ellwood I rescued from 40 years in the Kansas sun. I'd planned on building a '60s type street/strip car with an FE under the hood and the whole 9 yards. But my damn circle track genes won out, so Ellwood is going to become a Late Model stocker , pretty much the same as any you would've seen at any Saturday Night bullring in the late '60s. The only difference is that he'll be streetable..sorta. Plans include a 460 Ford under the hood, roll cage, race type setup ch***is, cut fenderwells and nothing but the basics for street legality. Paint will be by Rustoleum. Besides being true to my roots, Project Ellwood will be a heckuva way to use up the big***ed pile of circle track stuff I've ac***ulated over the years.

Hopefully I gave enough info but didn't bore everyone to sleep. I've been lurking here for a month and this is a cool board. BTW, I'm saving the original 223 6 for a barebones roadster project someday.

    Shutting up now..... [IMG]

Allright! I grew up within walking distance from our local dirt track, and the family went every Friday night. For everyone else who watched that stuff, thanks for the entertainment and inspiration! The Ford project sounds like a blast! Welcome...

You go rapid Roy, I mean Rachel. LOL Welcome from the Texas plains. I spent time in the bull rings in the 80's, and its a fever you dont EVER get rid of. You just learn to live with it. Yes people, I killed a few cool cars. I hope to see pictures of the progress on here. Keith

    Welcome
What part of OH did you race in on the dirt? I use to be a mud dobber for quite a few years traveling around racing in circles.Just got tired of gettin ran thru by back markers and having to rebuild the car all week to race one night.

Thanks for the warm welcome, everybody... [IMG] Actually, I did most of my dirt runnin' in Western PA at tracks like Lernerville, the old Butler Fairgrounds and Mercer. I raced on asphalt mostly toward the end of my career at Canton, Barberton and Painesville Oh. After all this time, I'm still addicted to runnin' in circles so I'd never say 'never' to a comeback.

I don't have much left for pics of my old cars...had a house fire in '78 [IMG], but I've got a couple I can scan. Plus I've got a few of coupes and old Late Models from my area I've found on the 'Net. Attached is a pic of my Custom when she arrived here from Kansas.
