Bagging 1953 Chevy Belair, Front Clip?? Few Questions

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Arrowood Rod & Kustom, May 17, 2010.

  1. so I'm looking at getting a 1953 Chevy Belair 2 door, I want to bag and channel it..I've read some threads on here about this but didnt exactly see the info I needed, I havent been under the car to see what all is involved so I'm going to ask some questions and Wednesday when I look the car over more I should know more about bagging it

    Questions..
    1) what do you need to do to bag the stock front?
    2) what about a camaro front clip, what years work best if any and what needs to be done, picts help
    3) why do most people run the Mustang II whats the benefits?
    4) I've heard some companies make disc brake conversion kits for these cars, wheres the best place to get them?

camaro front clip is too wide for these cars and your tires will be too close to the fender is what i have understood. there is also a guy on here i dont recall what his name is but he did a step by step on how to bag the stock front end. try ch***is enginering they have the conversion kits. as for the m2 its the easiest way to bag these cars!

  4. yeah thats what I read their too wide atleast it was a '69 Camaro that I read about wasent sure if the 80's models were the same way or not because I can pick up those Camaros all day long on craigslist for cheap

I searched ch***is enginering for disc brake kit but came up no results

everyone says that there the easiest way to bags these cars the the MII is it because of the control arms or what? I've never seen one in person or rode in a car with one so I have very little knowledge on them other than I know there it the 2 grand price range

Buy a Fatman hub to hub front clip. They are available with coils, coil-overs, or air. Power or manual rack, and come with disk brakes. I've done 25 or 30. Everything is new so you dont have to rebuild a 40 year old camaro clip. Just follow the instructions. You might be able to sell your old front end to someone restoring an early corvette (54-62 are the same) Paul

  6. Or just unbolt the stock front end from the frame and use a bolt-in or weld in front suspension for them. Given umpteen guys make them there's no reason to clip the frame. And if you don't want to spend the money a 70-85 Jaguar XJ6/XJ12 front end is a ridiculously easy swap - and can also be bagged.

  7. that was my next question what year jags work..so thats good I found a few locally for cheap on craigslist so might go that route

anyone on here bag the jag front end? what are the benefits of the jag over the stock front end?

I know theres a lot of threads on this, I've been reading all day but havent found all the anwsers I need

DO NOT clip your car.. you will regret it... way too much work and with all the aftermarket kits available, it's a no-brainer...

I clipped my '49 with an S10 and wish I hadn't. Yes was easy to bag and gives me all the creature comfy stuff newer suspension does, but this presented issues with hanging bumper, fenders, motor mounts, exhaust routing, and biggest headache of all - radiator placement!

I almost went and bought another 49-50 car to get its frame and start over! Not kidding.

As stated above, stock frames can be bagged and drive great. I would unbolt your stocker, slide an aftermarket kit in its place and weld-er-up! end of story.

    Now get to work.

    my $.02
