    Welcome from Irving TX!
I am currently working on a 36 also.
Been told by some use square 1 inch tubing,
Someone said use 3/8 inch solid round stock.
My buddy made a suggestion that sounded good.
Take 1 inch flat stock metal and complete boxing in the area
    the wood once was located.
Makes sense to me when you look at the top of the door above the window.
Have yet to tackle my doors cause I still need a frame!
    Still deciding on frame options.
    Welcome and good luck!
Post up some photos of that Chevy!
