I found a 32 chevy straight axle that has been dropped back in the day. I would like to figure out how much drop it has.

Does anyone have the measurement from the top of the kingpin to the bottom of the axle so I can compare?? I searched but could not find the info. If its been published please post the link.

I measured my 31 Chevy axle today, I think this will help a little.

From the top of the axle where the kingpin is, down to the imaginary line that would come from the bottom of the axle from where the spring mounts is like 6 inches top to bottom. Verticle.

The rough measure from the axle mount to the outside of the axle is like 12 inches horizonal.

That is EXACTLY the measurement I was looking for. My axle measures 8 1/2" so it looks like I have a 2 1/2" drop.

Thank you very much. Aint the HAMB great???

I found this axle from an old antiquer that hated it. Seems like he installed it as a young man in the early 50's but didnt like the drop. So he took it out and waited to find an original axle, so I got it. He tells me it was a 1952 Mor-Drop axle. Evidently he lived in the neighborhood and took it to the local guy (Mor-Drop) and hated it since day 1. Works for me.

Whew, glad I could help! NEat deal for a quick drop and little work on your part. I think reversed leaf could gain you another 2 to 3 inches.

I was lamenting to myself today how the complete rear I picked up for my 31 Landau Phaeton out of a 31 Chevy 5 window coupe was going to be to short (by two inches) after a Chevy Expert told me they were the same. Tapes dont lie.

Measured the front axle for you right after that, news is good

Its for a 33 sedan - I mentioned it in my profile. Trent, I took it to Jerry's a couple weeks ago, so it is officially a "West River Car".

I still need a .010" over size kingpin set for it though. anyone???

Have one machined from 304 stainless. Or have a stainless sleeve made to press into the oversize axle. (similar to a 'shaft-saver' for crankshaft seal surfaces)

Acutally the Landau Phaeton is a 31, and keeping it stock, accept the 30 engine and trans. To many parts not to, plus, it will sell and I can build another rod.

I do have a 32 Woodie that I will build a little more down the road.

I am getting a 32 Chevy and it is dropped 6 ". Will not p*** scrub line test. Am considering changing it to a more modest drop of 2" or 3". Does anyone have one? I would trade too, or have the 6" for sale.

Is it a factory axle that's been dropped or a tube type? Might be interested, and have stock one's available...
