OH 54 CHEVY from day one i had a batt drain cleaned grounds, add grounds, and same prob ,... so now i just disconnet battery eveytime not in use. so yesterday i was working on some thing i touched the voltage reg, and it was warm not hot but warm .. car have no been running but i did have that battery hooked up. I disconnected the batt and heard a slight click form the voltage regulator. The car was converted to 12 volt before i got it .

  3. Sounds like you need a new voltage regulator.Had a 64 Mustang w/same problem.New regulator solved it.

  4. yea replace the voltage regulater.

Tere may be shorts all over the old beast but the voltage regulater is probably the first problem you should address.

Check for back flow, or draining of your battery by disconnecting the ground cable and touching a trouble light to the ground cable and back to the battery post. If it lights then you have a back draw. Pull fuses one at a time or disconnect items till the light goes out and you found your problem. Newer radios have clocks and such which will show a back draw, but should'nt drain your battery. Nice avatar. :D
