that transmission is 40-48 style car. the engine looks like a 59 series 46-48, it would be marked on the top of the trans bell on the back of the motor. there might be numbers stamped into the bottom of the transmission on the back and bottom. there might also be a pad near the inspection cover.

Yer going to have to scrape it to find the casting numbers. Almost looks like an old borg warner t-14 or t90 but without a top cover.

I'm pretty sure the transfer case is original to the jeep complete with the PTO... I'm just trying to figure out what i have and how the heck did they make it work. As far as I can tell the transfer case is held to the trans with one bolt??

the back of the ford trans has a shaft that sticks out about an inch that usually a yolk bolts to. they coulda made an adapter. then there should be 6 bolts where the torque tube pivot bolted on. maybe they bolted it from the inside of the transfer case, or not at all......

Could be a old Marmon 4X4 conversion. Marmon did a lot of 4X4 conversions for Ford 30s-40s even cars which gives you the column shift bits.
