A friend of mine has a 56 Ford with a 292 in it. He has a 4bbl off a 289 mustang on it. It's the holley look a like deal. 4100? Anyway, he says it has 42 primary jets in it. What is a normal primary jet size for a 292 with a 4bbl. His had a teapot on it originally. And yes, he put a new powervalve in it. And yes the floats are set right and it has just been kit'd. The timing is right also. Just chasing a rich at idle condition. Thanks, Lippy
I'd play with the idle mixture screws first before doing any jet changes... Hook up a vacuum gauge and adjust the screws to get the highest reading.
I found this on a Mustang website. Check it out. http://forums.mustangmonthly.com/70.../adjusting-autolight-4100-4-barrel/index.html
What indicators of rich mixture at idle do you have. A vac leak can cause a mixture problem that many diagnose as a rich mixture by the exhaust.
Black pipes and smelly. Fellas, I'm going to run over there later and get some more info from him and post again. And part throttle is rich too he says. Damn gas engines. That stuff is for cleaning parts is what I told him. LOL. Lippy
If he still has the original distributor it won't run right anyway. A later Y-block dist. has the mechanical advance that will work with the Autolite carb. Look for one out of a '60's pickup.
Very good point. The 56 Distributor needs the 56 carb to work the funky vac advance correctly. Get a 57 up dist.
This is true but it will just make it run like a dog not rich. Ie it hasn't been changed out you can get the later dizzy at any parts store just ask for one out of any '60s F-100 then hook to ported vacuum I agree with this too. If it is only fat at idle check mixture screws and float level. I know you said it's been done but it's all I have for you without looking at the carb.
