Just got back from a day working on the car, which is a mission on its own seeing my workshop is over 180 miles away from home. After installing the rear end we thought we would tackle the rear shock mounts. I wanted them so we could change the position of the shocks to alter they stiffness for racing if needed. After some thought this is what we came up with.

Then it was time to decided where the body is going to sit. The body is going to be hinged at the back and duez fastened along the bottom to the rails so it can either be taken off i one piece or flipped up from the front.

Not to put my foot in my mouth [IMG] but, will that many holes in your chassis cause it to be weak? Shouldn't you prehaps run tube thru them and cut it flush to give it back some of it's support without compensating the look you are after? I'm thinking that if your motor puts out the amount of ponies you are expecting, that the holes will allow the frame to twist or break.

VERY good point Brandy. None of the guys picked up on that. It would be a good idea to sleeve those holes. Keith

The holes aren't there for the look they're there to make the car as light as possible (but i agree they look good). [IMG]
The chassis is designed so all the power transfers along the outer rails which are only drilled on the inner side only. Also the way the rear suspension is set up it will limit the amount of twist on the chassis.(Locker diff, 4 bar, anti roll bar etc).

That is the most pointless thing you could ever do.
Whats the point of drilling all them holes for lightness as Jungle Jim said he did it for then go and sleeve them all. You will proberly end up putting in more metal than what you actually took out by drilling the hole in the first place.
I've seen wishbones that have been drilled with one being sleeved and the other not. The un-sleeved wishbone was no weaker than the sleeved one but it was an awful lot lighter.

Looks sweet. A nice blend of traditional rodding and race tech. I like the front motor mount - could you pls post a close-up of it? Also, what are you using for the ani-roll bar?

  13. Nice car! You dont see many traditional '32 gassers. That blown flattie sure will be nice too! [IMG]

nice, nice ,drol, drol. I.M.H.O. that frame in new metal is proably much stronger than any of the old aa/gasers
that used boxed stock frames (drilled or not.)

Not knowing the exact planning behind the chassis and NOT BEING A MINDREADER, I couldn't have possibly have known what sort of design went into the chassis. I have however, seen frames twist, break and crack due to the stress caused from launching off a line. I've seen many cars that twist like a bronco when they come off the line, some straighten back out and some are toast....If the design is perfect and precise then it should do exactly as Jim has designed it to do. Otherwise I guess it's a game of chance.

The frame should be strong enough because he ran double frame rails down the center where the stress is but i would put sleves in the split wishbones front and rear so the suspension doesn't fall off the frame if they ever have a crack start.

    It sure sits right!

The frame from the bellhousing back looks strong. But the area that I wonder about is the part around the front engine plate. Thats where it'll twist. No double frame rail. And the engine will try to twist its way out of there. Unless you're going to add down bars from the cage. Then that will fix it. Just my opinion from building and racing past race cars. Keith

Henry this is the only close up ive got to hand.

The anti roll bar is a one-off we've made to suit the car.Couldn't find any that we suitable for the job so made it myself.

The first engine that will be going in it is running a Roadrunner blower kit by Joe Abbin running at 9 psi.

It's sick, a bit extreme and I completely love it. In a sea of 32's it stands out and gives the rest the middle finger.

  29. On those lightening holes, I love the look of them, but as someone mentioned earlier, there is a guessing-game for how well they maintain strength. I've asked a few times on the forum about lightening holes, since I'd like to do them on my frame too. Working at GM, I've heard that there is some "formula" for the size of the holes. It's based on the width of the rail, and they have to be a certain distance from each other. I have heard if you use this method of planning, you lose almost nothing in strength. The Germans also used it for the frames of their zeppelins.

If anyone knows anything about it, please let me know.

  30. Looks awesome Jim, can't wait to see the finished article.

You gonna paint it like a race car too?
