Finally getting started on my 32 Chev, it's going to be somewhat of a budget build. For now I am planning on keeping the fenders and not chopping it, keep the old paint in tact too. Just going to transplant a 292 six into it, S-10 rear end and juice brakes all the way around.

The engine is going to sport 3 Rochester singles (currently being shipped to ****'s Hot Rod Place for linkage set up), a Joe Hunt Magneto, it's got a good cam in it (can't locate the paperwork and forgot the particulars on it), and a cast iron set of Stovebolt headers, and TH350 transmission (may switch this to a stick later).

A couple things I am toying with are alternator or generator? While an alternator would be the simplest, a generator would give the look that I am after so still undecided... input?

the other issue is the shocks, still has the old lever type and I'll bet they're completely shot, how to install new style shocks??

    Any and all input welcome!

Wow Deuce Chev, the car looks solid. She's gonna scoot pretty good with the 292. Good luck.

How 'bout an alternator that looks like a generator?

Truth is, if it's working the way it should, with all components at their best, a generator charging-system works fine, with no dimming of headlights, and will actually charge at idle.

IMO, it's a shame to use a typical alternator on an old car...especially one like yours.

Are the Chevy shocks friction lever shocks, or hydraulic lever? I know there are new friction-shocks available, and hydraulic can be rebuilt. For that matter, I think the friction-shocks can be rebuilt too.

It's a pretty solid car, I drove it a bit before I started pulling it apart. A new radiator is currently being built (the old one could not handle pressure & had the wrong fittings) Next order of business is building a test stand to test run the engine!

I'm fairly stoked, you don't see a lot of 32 Chev rods out there, especially with a built 292.

i used a ch***is engineering front end kit on mine. it is w/o fenders but i think it will clear top. they bolt into existing 32 mounting holes. or a set of early chrysler product or f1-100 and fabricate base. this is ***uming you are looking for tube shocks. good luck with it and if you want to see my interpretation of a 32 chev see my profile.

Ahh finally an old chevy with a STRAIGHT SIX! and a STRAIGHT AXLE! what is this world coming to? I have converted from my lifelong V8 habit, to dancing with who ya came with. However I kinda had a problem with the 6 vs hemi in another post. Hemi,s are awesome to just look at. Nothin wrong with a straight axle, they were ok on the ovals and road races, millions of trucks have em. I am putting disc brakes on my strt. axle, and commited to keep a straight 6 in my 39 chevy, any make or size, and the badder the better. A mild turbo with 350t trans and any six will pull like a locomotive.

Re your shocks, check out the brackets on the axle and the frame. They are off a '50s Chevy truck - stock castings. The shocks were a listing for a late '50s Vette, with studs on both ends. Easy...

Well the Coupe has been sitting long enough without much happening so I have decided to get back to work on it, starting with the engine. Just getting things bolted on for a mock up, hope to have the running stand done this weekend so I can mount the engine and fire it up.

I have decided to go with a stick rather than the TH 350 that's bolted to it, if you have a good muncie or T-10 out here in the PNW.... I'm looking.

PS I'll lose the orange oil filter as soon as I get the engine mounted in the test stand!

Looks good, I have a dropped axle setup on my 39. I,m thinkin of a Jag front end later on, wanna see how the straight axle works first. Good to be different, gads an early chevy with a 'straight 6'! My first car was a 32 chevy roadster, bought for $5 from the neighbor, sadly my Dad wouldnt let me keep it, I was 14.

I had the mag set up for street from Joe Hunt, it's brand new. Also bought a tach kit from them so I could run my old school Dixco tach on it. The engine I bought off Craigslist already to go, 220 duration cam, larger valves, ported head (according to the guy I bought it from) I added the cast iron headers from Langdon's Stovebolt, and the offy manifold with 2 Holley 94's.

so we'll see how she sounds pretty soon.... I will post a video of it for sure.
