Excellent!! Y-blocks are so hip, and the build is really a sweet job. Thanx for sharing this project with us. Congats-- ~Sololobo~

  7. That is exactly what i set it at for the first try and the thing tracks perfectly true. :D

I had a great time last night, everything seemed to work just as planed. I wanted to make a few more p***es and try a real "Launch" but the fuel pump had other ideas. There will be more chances. "Boy, is this gonna be GREAT!" :D:D:D

  11. We made it to the races yesterday and what a madhouse. In Oct there was about a quarter of the people that were there yesterday and I don't think the volunteer staff was prepaired for the croud. But in the midst of all the confussion we managed to have a good time and get three p***es in with "Elwood". With Bigredtodd's '60 F-100 (Earl) as my official tow vehical we went through tech without any issuse and pulled up to the line for our first solo p***. With the flaggers signal I eased down on the go peddel and was off. (this was my first time out so I didn't want to hit it hard) Everything went well till I hit second and a big cloud of smoke came off the right side of the engine. At first I was worried that something bad had happened but apon inspection I had just popped the dipstick and shot some oil on the header. So we come around for a second run. This time I'm more confident and ease up to the line, the flagger signals me, I run the engine up to about 3000 aginst the brakes (the drums held wonderfully), the flag went up and my foot went down! This is the best expirience of of my life, well my wedding night was pretty good too, Elwood took off like a gun tracked perfectly strait and I went through three gears without a hitch. :D I've got a smile on my face that can not be removed now and we come around for a third p***. This time I'm thinking I'm a pro so I pull to the line, run the engine up, the flag goes up and I'm off. P***ed the finish line one of the airscoops flies off and at that instant I get a face full of oil. The engine is still running OK as I shut down to be towed back so I don't think I hurt anything.
After thinking about it for a while I think what I did wrong was in my engine build. As you all know I like to pressureize the rockers, well somewhere around 7000 rpm I think that there was just too much oil returning to the valley by the filler neck and my one and only breather. The pressure in the crankcase just blew the oil up towards the filter on the end and out it went. In the "Yellow Brick" engine we have restricters to the rockers, it sliped my mind for my own engine. Well I will be cleaning the car today and thinking about restricters in the feed to the rockers and better crankcase breathing.
The car runs and drives great, I'm sure My Mom is looking down with a smile on her face. :)
Thanks to everyone for your support, especially my pit crew. Charlie, Todd and Rick. ;)

Great Fun! It will be even more fun when the oil stays in the motor.

this is what it is all about... about once a week I find a thread I read start to end and this is one of them....
    couple of q''s?

do you think It would be realistic for a big guy (I'm 6'6" and 300+) to modify the ****pit enough for me to fit?

How much time do you have in it? outside of engine work?

How much $$ other then engine.. (understand if you dont want to get into that...)
    thanks

Get a set of blueprints and build to fit. There's lots of us Plus-sized racers out there:p. I am, however somewhat shorter than you but in the same weight cl***.

  24. Hmm, I'm thinking lower gear R&P!

  25. Not sure I get you right, but the thing raps up pretty quick in the eighth with 4:33s so I was thinking a little higher gear.

  26. You need to check out Dolmetsch he's a big guy, I know he wont mind me saying that, and he is on his second FED http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=431395

Lots of time, you need to be focused and dedicated, if it's just a whim it will end up as an unfinished project ten years from now. I know I have a couple. Be ready for 10k +, I budgited 5k and went way over. I have a machine shop and a ch***is building buddy that just near gave me his time so it isn't cheep or easy. If you want it it's a great time to build and one hell of a lot of fun, I would never say don't do it, but make sure it is what you really want. Then go for it! ;)

    How about going taller to a 30'' slick..10.00-15 ? M & H has a 9.00-30-15 $370 for a pair. call Hashim's in Bakersfield. He is the West Coast Distributor for M & H
