The Autoloc ones I got on Ebay were not cheap to say the least for the kit. This junk is made in China no doubt I cant get over the terrible tolerances in the snout area. I got them to work but two things are really ******* me off. Solenoids get damn hot after 3-4 pops and this makes me nervous. The piston on the solenoid has to much damn play up/down side/side that when I close my doors it sounds like a can of loose nuts are vibrating and rattling inside. Its driving me crazy. I adjusted the cable all different ways and no help. I mounted mine behind the door panel area on a sturdy brace. Can anyone direct me to a solenoid that might be smaller, have better piston tolerance or even a bushing to control the vibration and one that doesn't run hot? thanks guys
Find some VW starter solenoids. They are made the same and will proably fit the autoloc brackets. I have used the VW solenoids and they worked great and no rattle or other problems. I used them to pull on bear claw latches.
also chevy blazers have good ones in the back door to unlock the gl*** they work great and are solid i have the one you have in the door of my jeep and yes they **** and rust if water gets in, lose their power in the winter i hate it but to lazy to replace it
older 60-70's Cadillac rear door poppers. junk yard find, usually a few bucks each. I've probably bought 30 of them and maybe 2 didn't work.
thats cause you bought them from ebay. i got them from ebay, pretty cheap, but they were junk. got told thats cause the solenoids are from china (I had 2 burn out) , was told if you get them from autoloc they are better..(they are also more pricey).... unsure if thats true.
Has anyone here had good luck with SPAL Solenoids? I heard they are made in the USA but I doubt that. Its a smaller different design from the Autoloc ones. In regards to the Blazer and Caddy ones post up some photos while I scavage the net looking for two.
The SPAL kits are probably the best... I have them on my O/T bodied and bagged show truck... they have a nice rubber boot that prevents water from getting in them and not working... I have used the SPAL solenoids on at least 10 vehicles and would always recommend them.
I've often wondered if the usual GM power door lock solenoid has enough pull to use for door latches.
I think Im gonna pick up the SPAL 45lb units online. Any recommendation on a SPAL reseller I can buy from who has good support? I see the rubber boot design will not only prevent water and rust in the cavity but it also must dampen the piston so it doesnt rattle . I took my Autolocs out tonight and took them apart the tolerances of the shaft and body is like 50 thousanths off, total joke man. mine both smell burnt like a ceramic burned smell and i only popped them 10 times since Friday, total junk. I see the SPAL use a 2 wire hook up, so I need to redo my relay which is fine.
