i did the search, came up with a few threads about shipping large items. the only thread that came up in search for smaller packages was over six years old. has anything changed? i need to ship an intake to melbourne. what would be the best way? is there a problem with customs or taxes?
thanks, i saw in the old post to maybe label it as a gift so the guy receiving it doesn't have to pay taxes. is that a good idea or will that maybe hold it up in customs?
It might Rick -0 just send via USPS Int Air Mail like pete said - best way to go. Any qns, PM me mate. Rat
There is all sorts of **** going on herein OZ with sending parts via the Auto Shippers using their containers. The best way is USPS as suggested. Marking things as Gift has not held things up for me in the past. I'm not sure what value you are putting on it, but things over $1,000 may be hit for 10% sales tax here in OZ.
I've shipped a mul***ude of packages to Perth, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane to friends. What exactly are you looking to ship? If can be sent in multiple parcels I can send a few tips.
USPS shouldnt be a problem, I've recieved a few things like that using them. Postage is always killer for us but good on you for putting in the extra effort! Usually when people hear your in another country they lose interest in dealing with you
If its urgent send it FEDEX if not USPS. _ __________________________________________ Don't argue with me I know absoloutley every thing about nothing.
Marking it as a gift does nothing... you still pay taxes on gifts... however, you don't pay taxes on any car parts if the value is under Au$1000 (bear in mind this _includes_ the cost of shipping and any customs clearance costs.. and duty.. if it's over 1k total, you'll get duty added on, and then gst on top of the duty...) Tall Paul was looking into setting up a slow shipping deal out of LA for small parts, combining freight in a container to drop the costs... I don't think that's up and running just yet, but he may be worth talking to anyway if it's not a rush job...
I ship large items via a friend in Long Beach who puts them in a container, otherwise everything else goes via USPS. I usually use Global Priority or prepaid boxes, depending what the item is and how it fits. You complete a simple value declaration at the Post Office when you send it. Simple, easy and reliable. As others have said if it is under $1000 (Au$) it will not incur charges but in any case the receiver has to pay anything owed before it can be released.
Unless it will fit in a flat rate box, and is under 20 lbs, postage on the typical intake will be about $120 USD to Oz. And if valued over $1000 AuD GST and customs duties both apply.
We ship our insulation to OZ on a regular basis. We use UPSP Priority mail. Only hang up is the size limit. We have to cut our 4' rolls down to 2 @ 2' due to the 42" length limit.
