I am building an F-1 ford. I am running a 350-350 combo in it. I have looked at the Lokar and Gennie shifters and linkage. Dont want to spend tht kinda money if I dont have to. Are there any chevy vehicles that can be a donor for this? I know it sounds like a lame question but I am sure that some original setups are better than others. Appreciate any help. Thanks to all who have helped in the past!
Thanks John. You're right about the tools and dogs. Of course now in our neck of the woods an A/C in the garage is nice!
Column shift is nice in a truck. Truck seats are high, so you need to reach down for a car type floor shifter...plus it's in the way if you ride 3 people. Got junkyards? grab a tape and see if you can use a 68-72 chevy/gmc auto column. They are easy to work with; the lower shaft will collapse to adjust, and the column looks clean with no key switch. There is also a trunion joint(U joint) at the bottom to allow some misalignment These have a nice easy hook up switch for neutral safety and reverse lights 67 and older will still have the old solid shaft all the way to the box
On ny F1 with a 700R I used the stock 3 speed column shifter. Had to make a plate to attach to the ****** and bend a rod to connect to the shifter.
Thanks guys. Unfortunately I am going with floor shifter steering column so thats not an option. Appreciate the input tho.
Never heard of a floor shifter steering column, sounds complicated Make your own if u want to save money.
You got me on that one outlaw. What I meant to type is the the steering column I am using is made to be used WITH a floor shifter.
