Hey, is there any differances between the ZZ4 Chevrolet waterpump and the other small block waterpumps. Will the ZZ4 pump work on any SBC?

  2. i used a ZZ4 and i believe it had just a normal long water pump. i replaced it with a short pump and pulleys with no problems

No parts on high dollar crate engines will fit anything in the real world.

the zz4 has the long pump, and when you change to a short pump you need to change the timing chain cover to a metal one because the plastic cover is to "thick" for the water pump to properly seal up to the block

Great, but does the ZZ4 waterpump work on a regular small block(not on a ZZ4 or replacing it with a short pump)? Or does it rotate in the wrong direction?

A ZZ4 is not "reverse flow" engine, however, a pump designed for a serpentine belt is made to turn backward when compared to a v belt pump.

So a ZZ$ pump will work on a SBC, and a SBC pump will work on a ZZ4, but you have to use the same style belt system that the pump was made for.

  7. Some very minor fettling of the plastic cover and the back of a short pump will allow the short pump to fit. 20,000 miles on the conversion in my '40 Chevy so far.
