Hello, I need information about this engine,
What is better a 1949 Ford vedette engine or a 1946 Ford deluxe I need to knox everything because I have to chosse one . Thanks

  2. The Ford Veddette engine is a French development of the original for V8-60 engine. Still about 136 ci. The 46 Deluxe would be a regular flathead weighing in at the usual 239 ci.

The Veddette engine will feature some interesting features. At some point they were fitted with a cast aluminium sump among other refinements.

Yes - the Vedette will be smaller & underpowered in a full-size car. The '46 will have the "regular" flathead in it - 100hp or so.

  4. Finding parts for a Vedette V-8 engine will be difficult, only buy or use it when it's complete and running.

... But will the French flathead v8 sit on US trannies as nicely as the US ones ? Or is it more towards the Ford´s V-4 Cologne vs V-4 Essex story (same looks but no fit/swap) ?

  6. I'd go with the large Ford engine for the reason that it's larger, more powerful and you may find parts easier to obtain.
