    Goof-Off or Goo-Gone might help.

Wax and grease remover, is one of the best and is available at any body shop supply.

I guess this is a good example of why a person should only use 3M masking tape.

Yeah, it probably will, but it's not kind to paint or plastics.

I use lighter fluid to get tape reside off. As pointed out earlier, if it's worth the cost of paint, then it's worth decent tape(3M).......

Soak it with baby oil and let it sit , remove what you can and soak it again.

Lacquer thinner. God's liquid gift to body shops. (As long as your car isnt painted with lacquer paint of course.)

Hey guys, it may very well not be cheap tape. If you leave masking tape on anything for an extended period you get the same thing, whether it's hi dollar tape or not. Go for the WD-40.

All of the foamy widow cleaners in the metal spray cans dissolve it very quickly.

X3 on 3M adhesive remover. Only stuff I use and lasts forever. I've got a can of it that is probably 7 years old. Still works awesome. Doesn't hurt paint and besides masking tape it also works good on duct tape, packing tape, stickers etc. On a really tough patch I use a plastic pampered Chef brown s****er to s****e most tape off then the adhesive remover to pull the final goo.

    4x.

It is what we use at the decal plant. Spray, soak, wipe.

Don't get WD40 on anything you may want to repaint. Go for the prepsol and elbow grease.

Spent a lot of years varnishing the Teak on sailboats and the tape left on for days in the Sun is very hard to get off. 3M makes a line of masking tape called "Sun tape" that is silver and you can leave it on for thirty days and it peels off without leaving any residue. It does cost more but the results are worth it.

Sun baked tape does leave some nasty residue! You've got a pretty complete list of products that can take adhesive off. You've also got a couple of products listed in this thread that while they will remove adhesive will also wrinkle fresh paint! Those would be laquer thinner and acetone. I wouldn't use either of those anywhere near fresh paint!
The 3M products for adhesive removal are pretty much fool-proof, just don't leave chemical soaked rags of the stuff on any fresh painted surface, you may get a bad reaction.
There is one other chemical that works on adhesive that hasn't been listed here so I thought I'd include it. It's denatured alcohol. This disolves the adhesive and is considered to be quite mild as far as 'chemical burn' goes.
The chemical burn list goes something like this:
    From hottest to coolest
    1) paint stripper
    2) laquer thinner
    3) acetone
    4) reducer
    5) mineral spirits
    6) wax/grease remover
    7) adhesive remover
    8) denatured alcohol

This is not a definative list and from the mineral spirits on down they are considered to be quite mild for chemicals. That said, I'd still recommend wearing Nitril gloves because they all **** the oils out of your skin which can cause overdry skin/bleeding cracked hands with exposure.

I use Zippo lighter fluid or Goof Off. Soak it a little bit and then use the red plastic razor blades I get from Harbor Freight.

ive always used prepsol or lighter fluid

lighter fluid works really well, and gets it all off. works on labels stickers, just about anything, and wont hurt what you dont want to.

wd40 works, but as said , dont get it around anythnig you might paint

  26. I use a product professional glaziers use on all sorts of glue stuck to gl*** called Super Seal release agent. Probably the same as 3m without the big name price. Safe to use around paint.

What is the best masking tape to use while painting I can leave on for a couple of days?

I have to mask my car in sections and I left me tape on for two days and was hard to pull off and left residue. Iused the 3m cheap stuff(lolwes), do I need to use blue or green 3m?
