The guy with the 52 Chevy barbeque grille had this axle laying in front of the grille. It has a tag on it that says posi fluid only so it is posi with disc brakes. Anyh idea what it came out of?? He said I could have it for a 12 pack of Busch beer.
It really looks like a disc brake rear from a 77(?) to 81 trans am . Those are definately the same looking spring perches as mine. as far as I know all the trans ams had posis. that is a very good rear to get , will bolt in to a 49-57 chev pretty much.
Very similar to the Seville, I have one on the floor in my shop, but the Seville has a 'flange' for the u-joint connection, not a yoke. Ray
sure looks like a '79-'81 T/A rear. Its worth a pretty good money to a Second gen camaro-t/a guy, if its in good shape and a good ratio(3.08 or 3.42). They were available with 2.41, 2.56 and 2.73, but those don't bring near the money.
True, the drum brake one I have has the flange. I have a Trans Am rear end but it has had a cover change so I can't do a comparison.
8.5" GM 10 bolt out of a Trans Am. Very strong rear end. It will hold up to a big block. Nearly as strong as a 12 bolt or a stock 9".
Cool!! Thanks guys. I'll swing by the beer store then go pick it up! Since it's a nice one I'll bring him two 12-packs!!
Very generous of you........but not a good tactic.........he'll get su****ious and want a CASE!!! Ray post script....."open mouth......insert foot......." (blushing here!!)
Not so quick there Gr***hopper.... Check it out first to make sure its not junk! Rearends come out for two reasons and only one is because its good and I want to save it! That might have been kept around just because the rotors were good on it or something!!! Old Chinese proverb: "one is never wise to waste good beer on smelly rear..." Or something like that.
