It's often said that a picture tells a thousand words and I think this is one of those picures. Shot quickly and candidly last Saturday at the KOA Kustom Nationals, this shot of Whodaky epitomises the man. He's dropped everything to explain to these kids all he knows about striping, where the lines come from, how they are create in the mind and then transferred to the medium on which thay are painted.. I just thought it was a great shot that shows a true artist at work.

Carps, thanks for the photo of Geoff doing what, apparently, just comes naturally to him. I have never met him and only know him through the HAMB. Which is a another gigantic reason I love the HAMB. Geoff's striping is the most innovative and just the damn best I have seen in many years. Additionally, I believe his character is revealed, I think, in the responses he posts here. They are genuine and thoughtful and not filled with vitriol as are many others. I am not surprised whatsoever that he would take the time to explain his art to those that ask. When my wife and I get back to Australia next year I hope I can look Geoff up (would this be OK, Geoff?) to say "g'day and to share an afternoon, or whatever, yakking about what brings us all together on the HAMB. I think Geoff is a modest man and I hope I haven't embarr***ed him with my prattling on in such a manner. Just saying what I'm thinking.

[/ QUOTE ] I wasn't surprised by the scene, just that the photo came out so well and cleearly tells the story of a man who's more than just an artist. Sometimes I get lucky with that stuff. [/ QUOTE ] You are right on the money, and don't worry, he's probably thinking about how to 'pay me back' as I type. Despite his reluctance to accept them, he deserves the accolades. Geoff''s truck is the one on the left, he only striped the white one.
That first shot is great. I just tried my hand at striping for the first time last weekend. Suffice to say it's a lot harder than it looks and it'll be a long time before I'll be posting anything on the Friday Art Show. Thanks to Geoff and Ian and Ray and all the other stripers for the motivation and influence. Keep it coming.
I have to agree... striping is one of the hardest things i have ever tried, definitely takes some time, dedication and patience. I admire anyone with this skill ... it's an amazing art and very inspiring. CAB
