Hello. I just inherited a 1950 Ford Coupe from my father in law, and I honestly don't know where to begin with this car. I have a 1966 Mustang coupe that I have been restoring for the past 4 years. But I know nothing about these ford coupes. The car hasn't been towed yet from his house in NY to my house in NJ. To complicate matters I will be moving to SC soon. I need to get both vehicles running so that I don't have to tow both of these cars. I think the ford coupe has been "modded" by my father in law. Its not original at all according to my mother in law. I just don't know what was original and what is modded. If the car is rare then I want to restore to original condition. but if its not, like my plain old 66 mustang coupe, then I would rather have it modded and have fun with it. My mustang will eventually be my daily driver. I dont have the vin yet. Do they make aftermarket parts for these cars? So I can add 12v electrical system, disc brakes etc? What are the most common mods/improvements that can be made to these cars? Is it better to go stock steering/ suspension or better to go aftermarket? Is it better to use the original flathead engine or just drop a 302 in it? Any modern car interiors a "bolt in" for this car? Any other "bolt in" stuff for this car to avoid welding and fabricating? Can i make this vehicle safe for daily driver use? Sorry for the long post.
Hey Mark. Generally Welcomes are not in order for those not following the rules but nevertheless Welcome. I feel you are worthy but just misguided... First off go to the top of this page and read the sticky. That information will help you get on the right path. Do as it says and offer a proper introduction. Then go over to the main board and ask your questions. That is where you will get some help. This is a, tell us a little about yourself section. Good luck, I think you'll be alrright.
Hello. My name is Mark. I currently live in Marlton NJ but grew up in South Philadelphia (GO FLYERS). I am 45 yrs old, American-Italian. American first. i don't wear any gold chains, nor a white t shirt. Went to all catholic schools, and all male catholic high school, but more spiritual now than a church goer. Professional occupation is PC Technician but I did work as an Autobody man in my younger days, and also went to Pennco Tech for Automotive Mechanics in the 80's. So I'm not up to date mechanically, but I know enough to be dangerous. What i do remember is fuzzy. I have always loved the old cl***ic cars and have owned several in my lifetime. ( 1968 Oldmobile Cutl*** Supreme, 1969 chevelle, 1967 RS SS 397 Camaro) I am married to my wife Sheryl. Its the 2nd marriage for both of us. We have her two boys (22 & 18) from her first marriage, and I have one daughter (14) from my first marriage. Together, we adopted a baby girl from China 3 yrs ago who just turned 5 this past weekend. Birthday theme was HOT WHEELS! All four children live with us at the present time. My wife and I are pretty much opposites. She's suburbia, I'm city. She's country, I'm rock n roll. She's all for guns, I'm not. She's The History Channel, and I'm House MD. She's NY Yankees, I"m Phillies. I had gotten away from cars for a long time until my best friend p***ed away 4 yrs ago. I needed a distraction/therapy and saw a 66 mustang for sale one day that needed a total restoration. I bought it and have been working on it on and off for the past 4 years. Its been great therapy. My father in law seen how good my ford mustang has been coming along and decided to give me his OLD FORD 1950 Coupe. I frequent the Mustang forums and someone there told me about this forum for help with Ford coupe. So here I am. I will be moving soon to South Carolina and I don't know anything about south carolina at all. I haven't had much time to plan for this move.
Hey MarkinNJ, Look up "shoeboxford.com" on the net. Membership costs nothing and the site has a great Discussion Forum for members, who all drive/like/restore/modify 1949-1951 FoMoCo vehicles. Make no mistake, the HAMB group is wonderful and its collective depth of knowledge is amazing, but the "shoebox" site is more informal, and may be a better place to start your inquiry right now. We were all beginners on particular cars at one time, no shame in that. All I know is I'm a member of both websites, and I wouldn't be without either one as I put my own 1950 coupe back together. Best of luck and keep digging!! mr50s
Great intro. Good luck with the move to S.C. and the '50 Coupe. Is this a career/job move? As stated above, shoeboxford.com is a great place to find parts sources and advice. Welcome to the HAMB and remember, Maryland is on your way south if you want to get rid of that '50 on the way. ...just sayin'......Don
Welcome to hamb from Sweden if you want see my ford 50 project look here http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=410348
I'd love to tell you all about South Carolina, but I know less than you.. I've never even been to the U.S.A. so I'll just say enjoy H.A.M.B.
