Music in your Rod?

A friend of mine recently asked me when I would get my stereo working so we could have some music playing while cruising around. I've had the car for 7 months and had not thought about getting the radio working until that second. I guess it's just not too high on my to-do-list but I would eventually like to get some tunes going.

My questions is: how important is a radio/music in your rod? Do you keep it period correct or add CD changers or other newer components?

Don't get me wrong I dont condone subs and amps in a trunk of a classic but I do like my music (not Rap) loud..... Pretty loud.

I have to have music! I have been playing drums for 18 years so a ride in a car without music is like prison!

The thumping of a wild cam through lake headers right out side my doors is music to me...

Sweet, sweet V8 and pipes that sing like Rev. Horton Heat. Loud, boisterous, and full of attitude.

  6. For sure there is no need for a sound system when you can listen to the exhaust of any V-8 :)

Disclamer, there seems to be a bunch of interest in 8 track tape players lately.....

As far as I'm concerned, a radio is only a distraction from the beautiful music being played by a well built V8. :D (just my 2 cents)

I have an 8track in my 'shop'. Johnny Cash only sounds better on vinyl. I'll be damned if I subject my record player to garage conditions!

No music, just nervous flathead horsepower!

  10. we kind of already have a thread just like this going the last day or so, asking about if the factory radio in your car works IIRC. I answered there, so I won't repeat here -

my AD truck doesn't have a radio, but it needs one for the long rides. hell all rides seem long when you top out at 45mph.

gotta have music. i got one of those ones that hooks an ipod direct to it. i will get one for all of my cars. saves carrying around a bunch of cds to get damaged and keeps my car free of 10 million cds. i set mine up with speakers in the doors and speakers on the parcel shelf and its pretty loud now without all that rice burner style boot full of amps and subs etc etc

I had an iPod jack wired to the original am/8 track in my '69 Plymouth, it sounds pretty good for a 40 year old "system". I'm thinking about mounting a tuner under the seat of the truck and connecting an iPod to that too.

This is just what I did in the '54.

Can't see any of the system except the speakers in the hat shelf (which will be much less noticable once I get an interior) and the volume knob. I stashed the amp under the seat, the Ipod goes in the glove box, and I put a custom knob on the volume knob so it doesn't look modern. Also have front speakers hidden under the dash.
