I was thinking of building a rag top for my 24 T Roadster. I want to build a simple rear slant forward chop top. Has anyone done this before? any pics?
Thanks a bunch I like it. Im going to use your pics of the bows and build one from scratch. Who the poor SOB in the rumble seat, hope he doesn't have far to ride - Haa -Don
That's all I did for mine..built it from scratch. I based the design on a stock '26-7 top and custom made the bows from aluminum tubing (boat top stuff) and plastic fittings (also boat top stuff), then had a friend of mine (a master upholsterer) s***ch up the waterproof canvas for me. I have a tone more pictures of the bow ***embly pre-canvas if you want them...would be more than happy to send them your way. I played around with a more '33-35 Ford style top, but just didn't look as good or fit like the older "flat back" tops from the late 'teens and '20's. ...The "SOB" in the rumble seat is my best friend Dan who went with me, my brother (in the p***enger seat) and my Dad to deliver it to the Cal Auto Museum in Sacramento last month for it's 4 month stay as part of the "Drive Fast, Take Chances" vintage Hot Rod exhibit. This was the "last ride" into the building until I pick her up in July. The rumble seat is on my "to do next" list and will be a bit more comfortable when completed.
Yes I would like some pics of the bows. and front mount. I can probably just stop by and take some pics of it in Sacramento I go up there a few times a week, where is the exhibit? Good story on the rumble seat! i'll PM you my Email. Thanks, Don
The exhibit,"Drive Fast, Take Chances: Birth of the Hot Rod" is hosted by So.Cal Speed Shop (Sac location) and is open from April 10th - July 5th 2010 at the California Automotive Museum, (2200 Front Street Sacramento). Rob and crew at So.Cal put together a collection of cars which really represent the early days of hot rodding including Bobby Green's Old Crow belly tank, Vern Tardel's personal roadster as well as the AV8, Clayton's (MrModelT) 1926 roadster, Joe Fazio's Eddie Meyer Equipped 1932 barnfind roadtser as well as many other great examples.
