I am in the process of trying to get Motor Vech to license Hot Rods the same way as Antique cars here.... They are looking to see other places that have plates that say "hot rod" "street rod" "specialty vech" "historical vech" and so on...

When you license a Cl***ic car here you only pay 1/2 the price since they know it is stored for 1/2 the year.

Any help from those south of the boarder and those canadians with these plates would be great!

    Thanks
    Leon

Just block out the tag number itself. I'd post, but I'm on lunch break at work. :D

    Like an online shopping spree?

Anyway, you could just take in a handfull of magazines. That would show the plates, even if the numbers are blocked out and your dmv will know you didn't photoshop them :)

Ok, maybe I'm just stupid but how do you go on a shopping spree with someone's license plate number? Doesn't make sense. Thousands of people can see my plates everyday if they want to look at it since the cops get pissed if I take them off. I know I have the opportunity to write down thousands of numbers if I wanted to... Someone clue me in on the danger of showing your plate number.

opens up the playing field for the professional theifs..
instead of just being one guy behind you at the light it becomes a theif in another state,(or multiple thiefs from around the globe) or country.. that wants your car, and now he knows where to find it..

hey its just my take on it, you dont have to support my opinion..but with as much as these cars are getting stolen these days why risk it

it becomes a tool for the professional car theif..and he doesnt have to waste precious time trying to follow you from the car show or the 7-11..he can stake out your neighborhood and wait till you leave for work or vacation..and he can come from a place far far away from you, because you just did his home work for him

you see it alot in magazines, TV and cl***ifieds..must be a dam good reason for it, and im thinking this is the reason..just my 2 bits..

In Washington State, they have "Collector Vehicle" plates, or you can find an original plate from the right year, and register it to your car. Works with all vehicles over a certain age - rods, antiques, muscle cars, whatever.

Most states that have collector car or antique car plates or allow year of manufacture plates have all of the info on their websites.

Here is the info from Washington state.
    http://www.dol.wa.gov/vehicleregistration/spcollector.html

    http://www.dol.wa.gov/vehicleregistration/sprestored.html

Info in those also covers the Antique or Horseless carriage plates.

I'd be collecting that and similar information from other states and provinces that offer this style of plate including examples of the forms. That will let you go in armed with good examples of what other places are doing and how they do it. And it will probably work a lot better than showing up with printouts of guys license plates. Not that a couple of examples won't hurt the cause.

That might also help the people who get charged with making it work if it goes through feel like they will have a lot easier time of getting things done.

It will take a bit of work on your part as you will have to go through and do a search for each state or province to see what info they have. Use the info that the state or province provides on it's website if you can as it will be viewed as more reliable by the people you are trying to convince.

Exactly. Why do you think magazines when doing a feature block out the plates. Anyone on here that is TRULY friends with a cop or anyone at the dmv can get your info. Simple as that. Yep, countless people see your car daily, but if you were dealing in traditional cars overseas, would you send someone to drive around looking or would you simply go to a site where they gather and see 1000s in one swoop?

"If someone is gonna steal your car, their gonna find where it's parked anyhow. " Hell, then why take the keys out? Most thieves dont need the keys anyway. Do you lock your doors to your house? Why?

With all the posts lately of high end cars stolen on here (and everywhere) why make it easier? You guys really think all these thefts on high end cars are thefts of convienence?

for 5 bucks or maybe 19.95 on some website i could probably run a plate..cheap locating device when your talking 100,000 of dollars at stake

sometimes it just seems way too convienient that some of these high end cars walk away and no one ever finds them..and they were just sitting at he local watering hole or came home to find it gone

I just call my cop buddy, he gets me the info. I haven't used it to steal a car, but I have used it to buy one.

My license plate number isn't registered to my car in any way, so I could post it no worries, but it's a YOM plate and OP asked for Antique registration plates, unless I interpreted wrong. This is the one for NC. I apologize for being so small, but it's the only one I could find.

because theres enough of them, and maybe this would be a constuctive way to limit them?..ahh naww dont do that.

if i save one car from being stolen by telling people what i think or feel..than my work is done here..
not being aware to the possibilities is an open door and an opportunity for the theft

Hey, you're hijacking the man's thread. I really don't think this is what he had in mind when he started it. And now I'll shut up, and you can do whatever you want.

Its not about looking to get info to hi-jack cars....its about trying to make licensing Hot Rods cheaper for those who live in my area.... And as stated...you could always block out the numbers and just show the plate....

Not looking to piss anyone off....just get info to bring to DMV.

Leon, I dont think we were accusing YOU, but rather someone looking in. I would think, rather than a bunch of pictures, you could get the PDF files of the DMV laws and that would be a lot better proof to your dmv.
