    Hey Everyone,
I am new to the forum and i am picking up my 1952 Chevy 2 door deluxe this weekend. It is all stock and hasn't ran in 10 years. Can i charge a 12 volt battery and put it in there just to try to start it real quick what do i need to unhook. I was to do this conversion VERY cheap and easy can someone that has done a chevy tell me everything i need please. I am ***uming the generator is what charges the 6volt battery and would need to be unhooked while i try to crank it. thanks!!!

Are you just trying to crank it or are you trying to start it?

6 to 12 conversion has been covered so many times here...if you do a search it should answer your questions

you can jump a 6v car of a 12v with no problems, just get the cables off quickly, a 6V generator car will run with no (or a dead) battery in it.

Will the 6v coil get smoked by giving it 12v?? It seems like it would to me....

I've put a 12 bolt batter directly into a 6 volt system to start it up. 12 volt won't charge of course, but you will be able to start it. Take note of if it is positive or negative ground. Eventually things like solonoids or other electrical components will burn out but you should be ok for a few starts. I ran a 6v solonoid for several years before it burnt out. I've also driven a 49 merc pickup around the neightbourhood with a 12v batter in it, no problem. Wouldn't want to do it often, but you should be ok for what you need.
