After wanting one for years I finally brought it home last nite. Can you suggest a book that will help me with this build, particularly with the sub rails, floor, frame and suspension options. It will be Flathead powered with an I beam front end and Banjo rear.
Blackie - You were close - It's How to Build a Traditional Ford Hot Rod, by Mike Bishop and Vern Tardel.
So Al, you thinking early or late flathead? That Blackie Green will be a sweet addition to your build!
I'd like to pull the heads off the one in your shop and have a looksee. Hoping to have a day or two in early-mid June.
If you do a search here, keyword AV8, you'll find all the knowledge and information you will need. Also over in Ryan's latest, the Fordbarn, click on "communities".... "social groups".... "av8 owners". You'll find a mini-forum specifically for the type of rod you are building. Looks like you've got a good start.
how about a little encouragement; http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=257440&highlight=popeye 28/29 looks great on 32 rails!! by the way the car in the link was built on tv, might find somone that has a link to it or maybe a copy.
Lots of info there Rockabilly-thanks, and to everyone for encouragement and support. That's my brand, eaglebeak.
The roadster in the link was on hotrod tv, the episode is on youtube, just type in HOT ROD TV: Nineteen-28, by the way great start for an AV8 build!
As mentioned, Mike and Verns book is a treasure trove of information. when I started (1959-60 with a '29 av8 coupe) there was no such research available to guide a newcomer. I/we had to rely on the generosity of the old timers or trial and error on our own to figure this stuff out. The book has a couple of items that have been brought into question (mostly about motor mount location) but if you get in any trouble just ask and someone here will guide you through it. Frank
