I have a 58 olds motor. The lower left front exhaust bolt goes into the water jacket. I'm looking for a good hi-temp thread sealer to stop my water leak. What do you use. Thanks

Thanks Tony. Will it servive hi-temps? By the way I sure like the looks of your new heads.

  5. I just used Permatex #2 non-hardening sealer on cast iron small block chev head bolts...and one leaked (the heads are cast not the bolts). My thoughts...DON'T use Permatex #2. Luckily I caught the problem on the test stand before installing in my '38 Olds. Good luck.

Use it on all ours, works well,Its not that hot there
Think of it as a plug in a water jacket.
Dont forget intake bolts also,That why our new heads have all blind holes:D

Permatex recommends their "high temp" thread sealant, seems perfect for your application. I spoke with them on the phone last week about this, they said their high temp silicone (black or copper) will work but may not last, wasn't designed for the water pressure and will likely fatigue and fail eventually....

Find it at any NAPA, but you'll also see a "high performance" thread sealant from Permatex too, just doesn't go as high a temp so get the "high temp" version.

Good old Indian Head sealant works pretty well. Any comparable Permatex product should be good too.
