Heh I've been lurking around here for a while and finally signed up so I can ask you guys for some advise. I am working on a 49 Merc truck and am going to need to buy a wiring harness. I have been looking at the EZ, Painless, and Rebel kits, anyone have a preference? I will be running a 351W with a C6 and possibly power windows and locks. This is my first shot at doing this kind of stuff so the easier to install the better, hopefully without having to trade my first born. Any advice is appreciated.

    Take er easy

not to be a **** but the mob around here generally likes introductions for your first post. that said, I have had good results with the ez wire. can't beat the price and very easy to install. I'm sure you will get many different opinions. I'm just speaking from my own install expierience. good luck now go intro yourself

I was unable to find a new harness for my car, so I'm in the long slow tedious process of doing it myself. Rolls of wire, connectors, tape and a diagram. Did I mention it's long and slow and tedious?

Been there, done that ONCE and never again. I have no patience for doing a whole car that way. Luckily your '49 is pretty basic.

I would check out the Rebel Wire Harness. He's got a good US made product and you get a HAMB discount.

I just wired a 37 Terraplane for a fellow hamber and used the Affordable kit. It worked great and support was excellent. The car was a restored stocker and he made all the mods i needed to make it work. Good kit

I used EZ on my 40 buick, it should be called "really ez" instead of just ez LOL

  13. Did my Firebird with a Painless Wiring 18 circut, and now I'm running the EZ version on the Willys...I'm not sure about any other brands, but whatever you do, if you're buying a harness, get one that has the description printed on the wire. It saves ***LOADS of time.

    good luck!

I just finished my 32 with a rebel harness. I **** at electrical stuff and even I could figure it out. The harness does not come with a diagram although it does come with good instructions. They will help you if you call for tech ***istance. All the wires are labeled everey 6 inches.

Just got my Rebel kit from Glenn, looks nice and he was cool to deal with. Don't know if I got a HAMBERs discount but they are priced well.

The kits I've gotten from Glenn at Rebel were all top-notch. I'll be ordering 3 more real soon.

can't beat EZ for the money and they've got amazing tech support. down side to their kits are that they're prewired to the block and that limits where you can put the block etc. most cars I build have EZ harnesses.

Thanks for all the input, looks like I'll have to dust off the credit card and order something up.

    Thanks

Here's another plug for Rebel Wire, haven't installed mine yet, but Glen made the transaction and choice of kits a snap!
