its no trailer queen, thats the day it was picked up from the shop.
Here are a view @ the races coupe weeks ago. We took it down the track before eliminations, sorry no timeslip, but here some pics

Story on that pic is that Ed roth that signed it verify that it was Von's work. Since Ed and Von knew each other

O.k so the first one's a fake? And the second (complete) is the real deal?
I agree about the front tires.

    ..I like the yellow

some different tires up front, yeah, definetly

  9. On his death bed he wouldn't have painted or striped like that. He could sign his name so nice and small... the signiture is big, sloppy and fat. Nope! Flames are all wrong.

From what I've heard Dutch could blast out the "Harvey" design really really fast but the rest of the lines look really loose even for Dutch. Of course since it was done during his "Angry Period" maybe he just didnt give a fuck and wanted to get the customer off his ass. Everyone who stripes for a living has had those days.

As far as the flames, they don't look Dutch to me!

I kinda like the car, but would really like to see some more documentation on the Dutch and Roth connection. Why would the picture be signed in Sharpie and dated (2001 changed to 2000????) in ink? Where's the fly? Why does handwriting look different that most of Roth's signatures I've seen?

I agree on the ROTH signature...I've got three different signatures from the man '90-2000 and not one is without the fly...oh, wait found a fourth one from '63;no fly (yet?)...and all the Rs are 2 lines not one...SAD fake....maybe a letter of authenticity from BHO who is also from Hawaii will clear this matter up!

gotta agree with the majority of the painters who have posted here, this does not kook to me like anything Dutch ha d any part of! Looks to me like a pretty elaborate hoax- don't have any idea if the hoax was performed by the original owner or the current 'custodian' of this historic find', but it doesn't strike me as being Dutch-not even a good copy!.....waldo

I can under stand you guys not believing this isnt the real deal.
Dutch did more bikes than cars. Then towards the end did knifes and guns.
    good example here:
    http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=383587&highlight=von+dutch

But we are still trying to get everything documented and every bit of history on the car. We'll keep you guys posted if it is or isnt.
Because again, we are just sharing this with you guys.
    Just bare with us.

We are not taking comments to heart. We are living in an age where people are getting ripped off everyday because a dishonest car builder sold them a clone for big money. Its easy to clone stuff nowadays and get away with it, from motion, yenkos to shelbys.

Roths signature we are trying to get that documented if it really was. Thanks for the tip on the fly, i forgot about that one.

So what would be the ideal non gay wheel to run???? no really, what wheel would you guys suggest
im use to Novas and chevy 4x4's...havent built my dream 48chevy pick up yet.

When did those "Hotrod" emblems that is on the grill come in to play? I thought that was an 80's thing. If it was the 70's, I guess it gives me another thing to hate about the decade.

I think it would look better with steelies but I do kinda like the rear wheels, the fronts gotta go on a diet though and get skinnier.

Roth would sign ANYTHING for you. He was cool like that. A signature is just that, not a verification unless it says "yes he painted that". I have about 8 pieces that he signed and none look like the photo, but do look like the other.

Seems like it was a reproduction roadster with a reproduction Von Dutch treatment to hang in a bar for decoration. It's like all that sports memorabilia you see hangining in Aplbees. It ain't real bro. And the harder you push it, the more fake it looks to everyone. IMHO

Now unless there is a receipt from Von Dutch or a photo showing him doing it there is no way to PROVE it's his. Those who feel the car is not real don't have to prove it's not real. But someone claiming it is does have to prove it to make such a claim. I'm no expert, but it seems those who are familiar with his work seem to think its a fake.

Back in '59 ,,when my folks were on vacation to So Cal from Iowa ,,I hung out at Roths Shop fer a month ,,just a few blocks from my aint's house ,,,,learning all i could about pin- striping,,car names ,,weirdo shirts ,and most of all ,,,scallops and flames ,,Roth said then ,,"Never Ever Let The Flame Licks Cross Over Each Other ,,NEVER " Quote ,Un Quote,,
i have a hard time believing Roth would sign a picture of a car ,,any car ,,with the flame licks crossing over each other ,,it just wasn't His or the Dutch's Style ,,

  24. It's a known fact that VonDutch wouldn't duplicate his work, for any price! He was asked to do Harvey MANY times,on guys cars and said NO!!!!!
Also....that ROTH signature doesn't look like any i've seen before...and i've seen PLENTY!!!
