Good buy??

I've begun the process of collecting parts to start building my '22 willys into a RPU. Please don't flame me, but I have no clue to the value of any parts that arent new out of a catalog
Monday while talking to a guy about fixing my wifes trailblazer SS after she wrecked it, he mentions he's building a '35 Plymouth using a blazer frame and drivetrain. We go to look at it and I notice a pile of parts removed from the '35. Essentialy, everything but the body. He says he'll take $150 for the tubular drop axle with everything still attached. He also said he'd take $150 for a set of artillery wheels that still had relatively fresh looking rubber on them. He didnt mention the rear axle, but Ill prob get it too.
Are these good prices? Seems like they are but.......??

 

Prices sound good, hate that he's doing that to the Plymouth, but it helps you.

 

Yeah, he's gonna run the factory 6 cylinder from the blazer and the bobbed the front fenders off. Awful looking but it's his car sooooooo.

I just saw a guy on here selling 2 artilery wheels for $150 that were really rusty compared to the ones this guy has. Is that the going rate?!!

Will anyone have probs with me using plymouth parts on my willys?

 

My Willy's has a SBC engine, Ford front axle and rear end, Dodge wheels. Nobody on here will buy your parts for you, so run what you can get your hands on. I would like to run a period correct rod, but I don't have the patience to come up with all the "correct" parts. It will still be a blast to drive.

 

Sounds like a good start on the parts pile. Even if you don't use them all, they are good trading stock and/or sellable.

 

Sounds like good prices to me. They would be a great base for a project.

 

Verbal's right, Trading Stock is good insurance. When you need a part, cash is king, but many times a part you don't need will be worth WAY more than you buoght it for, and then there's the parts you get rid of and halfway through the build you need them back.....how many exhaust manifolds have I s****ped and today, I'm off to the boneyard for a set.......

 

Yes, that sounds like a very good deal on the artillery wheels. I like them; I'd use them.

 

Just buy everything he's got. Maybe you can use it, the rest you sell or trade.

 

Try making an offer for the "lot" and you will get everything cheaper. Sell off what you don't need or want. Repeat that process often and you have a chance to build your rod much cheaper, or in my case sometimes for free.

Rearend's basically worthless, so don't go paying $150 for that too.

 

What about the engine/trany? He says it turns but doesnt run. I would really like to get the banger going to keep as much willys in the car as I can, but 20 hp vs 80?? Should I include that if i buy everything else?

 

Picked up the front end and wheels/tires yesterday. Guy ended up saying he wanted $200 for the rear end so i let him keep it. I ended up with a complete front axle with brakes, complete steering including column, friction shocks, etc. And a set of artillery wheels/ tires, two actually being decent tires for $300 total. I think thats a pretty good deal???
Gonna hit up Pe*** Jean and see if I can find an engine to use. This is so much more fun than buying parts from a catalog!

What kinda engine are you wanting? My pastor is working on a '52 Ford F1 and has decided he will run a sbc (he's building it differently than I would.) The truck had a Merc flathead in it, I'm not sure of the year. Engine isn't locked up, but it's been several years since it ran. He's wanting to sell the entire ch***is. It could probably be bought fairly cheap. He lives at the base of Pe*** Jean mountain, so if you're interested, pm me. I'll try to get a price and I'll give you my phone number, I'll be on the mountain everyday except Saturday probably.

 

Huh? I searched and found it's a state park.

 

Pe*** Jean is a state park with an incredible swap meet on the top of the mountain. Very low mountain and easy to get up. I'm traveling there with my father and have for the past 15 years. It's beautiful up there and most of the parts are in the shade under the trees but still pretty hot.

That sounds like a cool swap meet.

 

The Pe*** Jean Swap Meet has been around for over 30 years. It is well-run and has only customer parking problems to complain about. The food is good. There is a separate flea market area for vendors of other than automotive parts, a car corral, and the auto museum which is where the swap meet is held.
The State Park is very popular and also Winrock Farms is up there, the family digs of Winthrop Rockefeller.
The meet is Thursday, Friday, Saturday next week. We're leaving Tuesday from here.
