Here is a friends collection of all of the street rod plates from the states. The first photo is my collection of Idaho plates.

yer right..wasnt ment to bring it to that level..just want to raise the awareness..way too many cars have grown feet lately and why not be more pro-active in keeping the theft rate lower..

and as i was saying there are other places to get the info you need than off the bumper of an expensive hot rod..

no intent to inflame anyone..or point fingers..just a friendly heads up from a guy on the other side of the pond thats all

Each U.S. state has a Department of Motor Vehicles website. All the information you'd need is there.

Well thanks for the info, at least I understand why now, didn't mean to start controversy though. I guess it makes sense even it it seems a little Hollywood "Gone in 60 Seconds" to me. Guess you have to have something worth stealing to worry about it. Regardless, thanks for the warning, I get your point.

The guys stealing high end cars aren't 16 year olds with a screwdriver, grabbing the Honda for a joyride.

If you go to ND North Dakota dmv department of motor vehicles and hit search plates you'll see how we do it. Mike.

We don't have a Street Rod or Hot Rod plate any longer, this is what is available in Nevada.

NV has Street Rod plates, and others for Vintage, etc. No mileage restriction - that's between you and your insurance company.

The suggestion that you troll the DMV sites for all states is a good one.

I have no comment regarding displaying one's own plate(s) on here - just a touch of paranoia - same reason most of my firearms are not registered, nor do I have all my personal info plastered all over the internet. Somebody wants to steal my ID, make 'em work for it.

    Thanks for your efforts Leon!

If anyone has a cool plate but feels weary of showing their actual numbers, then perhaps they can be blocked out in "paint" or just make a post saying..."Colorado has some really nice plates..."or wherever!
Leon will then have a direction to go to look at whats posted on that states/provinces web site with nobody feeling threatened.

I know Leon personally and have no qualms whatsoever about HIS being on the up and up.
Also, he does have tight connections within the local DMV and has helped numerous local Hot Rodders get thru the red tape and various issues they might find themselves in.
    Including myself! :D

As for the Local DMV being able to find the info themselves...sure they can...IF they wanted to.
Thing is...the current setup works perfectly for them so why even bother?

They need to see a WANT before they even think about changing the statis quo.
Do the work and show a group interest to them and you have a chance.
The local restorers club did this legwork for an antique plate issue and now they have dedicated antique plates.
Modified cars are not allowed to run the antique plates however...

Leon's desire is to get similar plates for the modified cars.

    Thanks again Leon!

  18. Here's an original from '69.

Ontario alternated colours from blue background w/ white letters to white back w/ blue letters every year. Then locked it down to white with blue in '73
