HAMB Nostalgia Jr. Fuel (must use at least 100% alky. Nitro ok up to 100%. No gasoline) Rules: 1) FED cars only 2) Maximum of 400 CI (no exceptions) 3) Minumum wieght = 1600 lbs (no exceptions) 4) Along with above, a weight to CI rule (to be determined) 5) No superchargers of any kind 6) Hemi heads, canted valves and semi hemi heads get weight penalty (to be determined) 7) Cast iron blocks and heads only (aftermarket ok, if cast iron) 8) Maximum tire size of 9" x 28" 9) No automatic transmissions 10) No electronics period. Not even for monitoring. Learn to listen and learn to drive. 11) Safety rules also (to be determined)
Great idea! I am about to start building one anyway. What are you thinking ch***is wise? SFI rules or old style ch***is?
Old "style" front engine ch***is, but current safety standards (no exhaust tubing ch***is, etc) specs tbd later No forced induction of any kind add rule 12) wheel base limited to no more than 120 inches
I been watching the Southwest jr fuel guys, they have a good car count. I am hope it takes off around here. Last year at the Norwalk Good Guys show there was a few running. Anyways Im in.
BTTT. Sounds interesting but I'm out. Not gonna give up my 671 and Hilborn four port. That and I'm a tad over 120".
I dig the Jr. Fuel concept, and allowing Nitro would be cool. I'd put the wheelbase at 150" max, to allow for some different appearing cars. which engines are you calling "semi hemi"? I also really dig the "no autos"
I'm watching... with interest. I think by semi hemi he means porcupine valves-IE Big Block Chevy's. JK
You will never get it done by disallowing automatics. I understand the nostalgic feeling you want but you will have a lot more interest and cars when you let people with powerglides play.
I think the Southwest Jr Fuel rules, except allow nitro. If no 'glides, direct drive only. Cars need to be allowed at least 180" to go fast safely. (low 7's- no interest in running 8's. Yawn...) The most important limiting factor would be fuel pump and magneto. I have been waiting for a cl*** like this for a long time. If there is enough interest in Texas, I would be glad to help organize and I could probably bring some event sponsorship. Dave Bloching
I agree you should allow Automatics, if you want a car count. I agree with with Iron block, but should allow aluminum heads, for repair and affordability. Good Luck
They should have to look nostalgic as well... all the other rules I agree with. I toy with the idea of building something like this from time to time.
BTTT and...........................................................................................................................wow i just gave up after reading the rules . not that they are bad , just a lot of em!! i am building a chopped and chanelled 27 T coupe with about a 106" wheelbase(frame not done yet) naturally aspirated 337 ci." SBC with 8 strombergs on top of a tunnel ram , the motor has 12.5 : 1 comp.pistons ,big cam , old 2 hump iron heads it makes decent power and will be driven through a super T 10 4 spd .trans , blah blah blah! i'm gonna have 2 seats, harnesses, minimal cage, magnesium wheels with 10.00 radir cheaters out back and spindle mount mag fronts. i am not opposed to disc rear brakes but will have no fronts , rear mount radiator , narrowed 9" rear , etc.etc.etc. when i first saw this post i was all excited that there may be a cl*** i could actually compete in and enjoy and still be able to hang a liscence plate and a couple lights on the car and drive it to the local cruises a couple times a summer!! but as the number of rules go up the streetability of the cars becomes non existent . it looks like i'll have to run it at the nostalgia events only ,oh well they look like a lotta fun too!!
Well, this was a Front Engine Dragster cl*** that they were talking about anyway. Have to wonder since this was over a year ago if anything came of the idea?
yeah i guess i overlooked that front engine DRAGSTER part ! i wonder if anything came of it as well !
Nothing has come of yet, but it isn't forgotten. As to ******'s 1) No automatics,,,period. 2) If it has a ******, mechanical driver shifted only. 3) Wheel base = minimum = 80" & maximum = 150". learn to drive. 4) carbs, no more than 8, no less than 1. 5) no batteries on board. if starter mounted, use a portable. I'm gonna push start myself 6) no qualifying, you pay, you run
You might consider to allow .030 overbore for the sbc 400, maybe a 410"max, if you don't you will eliminate all the gm production blocks and force guys to ponyup for aftermarket. I've never known this type of race to be won or lost by a few cubic inches. No injection? Alcohol carbs are dangerous, if the linkage gets stuck under power you cannot shut the engine off - you can toss the ignition out of the car and with alcohol it will continue to run. All you can do is shut the fuel off and let it run until the carbs empty - and you can cover a lot of distance, believe me.
A few of us have been kicking an ideal like this around for a while. Build a few for fun heads up match raceing. But we where gona run on race gas to keep the cost down and time slower than 10 seconds. Whole different game when u break 9.99.
