Moved down here from CT to northern Knoxville in January and since the weather warmed up just before Easter I've gone out driving around every Friday and Saturday night (Kingston Pike, Clinton Hwy and exploring areas in between) looking to see where the car guys gather.

Nuthin' -- I don't think I've seen but five Hot Rods or Muscle cars in total out cruising around. No one gathered in Sonic, McD's, Burger King or anywhere else.

Where is everyone? I was under the impression that this was car guy heaven down here, where do people who like cars hang out in the greater Knoxville area?

    ???

Can anyone clue me in? I'm jonesin' for a cruise night.......

There was a cruise every week at the Steak and Shake off of 275 and another that was pretty good every Friday night in Maryville at the foothills mall. And there is always all of the big car shows in Pigeon Forge.

My exit is 112 off of I-75, there is a Steak & Shake there on (East?) Emory just off the exit, opposite way of me going home (I go down West Emory into Powell). Is that the one you mean or is there another one a couple exits down where 275/75 part?

    Thanks.

I think that's the one. Call Steak and Shake and they will tell you.

You may need to get a little farther away from the immediate Knoxville area, Al. There used to be a large Sat. cruise night in Morristown (not a bad drive) and I believe the Tri-Cities area (Bristol-Kingsport-Johnson City) has some shows and cruise-ins (farther drive for you). Check out the small towns around, like Dandridge and Newport. The hot rods are out there. Next month is the long running Moonshine Rod Run @ City Park in Newport. Ask around at parts stores and builders' shops. They'll know where the fun is. As mentioned there are the various shows in the Pidgeon Forge-Sevierville-Gatlinburg area. Good luck.....Don.:)

I'm in Kingsport. Each Friday night, there's a gathering at the East Stone Dr. K-Mart. On Saturday nights, there's a cruise-in in downtown Elizabethton, TN (it's large enough that you can't miss it). Next weekend (May 28 & 29), there's a couple of large shows in Kingsport & Rogersville (see www.wildernesstrail.rodrun.com) for information on the Kingsport shows. If you need directions, give me a call at 423-943-0195.

  8. A couple of times a year there are more cars in Pigeon Forge than you probably want to deal with. Shades of the Past is one of them. Huge !! and I think within a week or two is another big one. I think there's lots of smaller ones through out the year. I was there in October one time and there was a pretty big one .. nothing like Shades though ..

Thanks guys. I tried Pigeon Forge last month but made the mistake of trying to go the middle of Saturday afternoon and spent two hours in traffic to go a mile and a half. Next time I'm going to rent a hotel room there and hang out all day.

Was hoping to see some regular cruise nights down here locally, they are all over the place up in central CT -- http://www.bristolautoclub.com/html/cruise_nights.html -- for instance, I went to that one all the time and plan to hit it next month while I'm in CT for a week grabbing the last of my stuff.

I suppose I was spoiled living only a mile from the Berlin Turnpike up there.

Will try Kingsport, it's not too far away, and will check out the local Steak 'n Shake too.

    Thanks!

  10. Well Al just livin' there in God's country will make up for a few less cruise nights in CT. As time goes by I'm sure you'll find a car event or two. Just google Shades of the Past and check it out. A hotel room would be great but be aware the prices of hotels go up substantially even though there are hundreds of hotels there. We love it there and will be up there next month for a week when the big boys come to Bristol. That is indeed "Thunder in the valley".

You tell him Lippy. Of course, he's got to find the welder first.;)

  16. Joe Neubert's on Clinton Hwy in Knoxville, Maryville, Seymore, etc... When you get tired of looking at all the local cars branch out to Historic Downtown Harriman Cruise, 2nd Sat.'s till August 14, Somerset Ky Somernites Cruise 4th Sat.'s till October, Morristown, Kindsport, North Georgia etc...

I hope you got to Memory Lane last Sat. It's a must see. Moonshine Run in Newport is an awesome show but it's the same weekend as the Hot Rod Reunion in Bowling Green so it's HRR for me, no contest. Between all this and the P Forge rod run's there's more than enough to keep a gearhead busy almost every weekend. See you out there.

Same here in fresno. I drive mine daily and so far this year i've seen about 5 pre 65 cars/trucks. But who knows... There's a show at our Chubbys Diner every friday I think. But that show isn't what it use to be. The guy running it the last time I went was so drunk I didn't even wanna go back.

That "show" at Chubbys is so lame its not even worth wasting the gas to drive over there.

Tell me about it. I was driving by one time and decided to stop. Theguy hosting it came up and was so drunk could barely walk right. Then started asking for a Reg. fee and I said I don't want to be in it I just wanted to get somethin to eat and look around. The whole night he was askin everyone for Reg. fees to enter the show... Pathetic.
