  5. I hear from that guy about once a week on eBay. The ones that tell me our stuff is overpriced (ever hear of an asking price?) rusty junk (ever actually welded sheetmetal?) who go on to brag about all the cars they own (can't show me pictures, or they steal one off the internet someplace of someone else's car) or have built (but if you built them you'd know they can be fixed?) or the shop they own (but can't name). If you call their bluff long enough eventually they start calling you an asshole and this and that (thanks for proving my point).

I just detest liars. I think the part that upsets me the most is that they must actually think that I'm that stupid to believe them. That is the insulting part. I just can't put up with it. I usually walk away and make a mental note to never believe anything that the guy ever says again.

I grew up around my Buddies that one who put pants belt leather inserts in a '55 Plymouth 6-banger so he could take his GF out on a Sat. night date. Worked fine for the evening!

Another was an old "shade-tree" Mechanic that made a 2-banger out of a Chevy 235, 6-banger to run his old WW-II surplus DC welding generator!

Next was my Buddy that helped me install my 232" Stude V-8, 3-speed stick OD in my '52 Willys H/T for the fun of it!

I'm typing on this Board to try to educate the "Pup's" like the old-timer's helped me way back in the '60's.

I see them all the time at shows and swap meets . They try to impress you with all they have seen on TV but never did a thing . It's there little world and if they want to act like that , let them go and have their thing .
We all know them so if that makes them happy then so be it !
Who the hell are they really hurting anyway , no one but themselves !

There are two kinds of bull shitters, the first kind is the kind who knows most folks know is is full of shit, (Mark Twain type), and the other kind is the kind who thinks he can pull the wool over everyones eyes.

I usually enjoy the first kind, and in a pinch I guess I enjoy leading the second kind along, unless they are in authority over me in some way, then it ain't much fun.. :D

    Paul,

I went many a mile in my Buddy's '51, 232" Stude 4-dr Commander w/ the "suck's" air cooled 3-speed auto in it up around 115 to 120 mph for mile's late at night between our small country town's back in the early '60's.

(He, He!!, the same guy that put the belt leather inserts in the '55 Plymouth)..

Back then, there was hardly any traffic on the hwy's between our small town's past 11:00 PM so the we ran the roads wide open!

I'm talking up to 160/170 mph in my long gone Crippled Buddy's '58 ragtop 'Vette w/ the hopped up '64, 375hp/327 FI engine that was Z-30 solid cammed.

I ended up w/ my Buddy's '51 Stude and I figure that it may still be out on our old farm.

  17. Jay Carnine used to say that "Some people are their own reward" They have to live with their consciences and what they say and do... or in this case what they don't.

Dreaming is fine. I have no problem with the guys who say someday... up to a point. It the ones who take this one step further and start making claims they can't backup. And then when these guys start calling BS on stuff I've done and experienced, I lose patience. It's a lot easier to just walk away from these monkeys than to try and explain.

There are car guys out there that lack mechanical aptitude. No need to bag on 'em, it's just the way they are wired. There are probably a million things they can do that I can't. I've no problem with that as long as they don't start making claims. That's when I start asking basic mechanical questions. It really is funny how many guys I try to talk to at a car get together that can barely tell you how many wheels their car has. Heavy sigh...

  18. You got it in one, Bro... Shame those chicks are usually as flaky as the guys they associate with. Still, like you, I definitely enjoy the view. :D

ive been around van's 4x4's and bikes since the mid 70's. back then we had a saying "trick trucks are built, not bought".
i did my own van interiors, molded flares, removed emblems, and hated if i put my van in a show and shine, that some dipstick with a factory "custom" talked sh*t.
ive had my ironhead sporty since '87, it survived being totalled and rebuilt with swap meet parts, survived my divorce, and aquite a few cold midwestern winters now. i wont even ride with "friends" anymore, they're all in the posers category. riding bikes someone else built, and with the "i'm a badass biker" i know some real badasses, and you aint one of em.
i was a member of a 4x4 club for 12 years, bought a beat up wheeling truck, and fixed it up so it didnt break down on every run. i picked up my current truck out of a cornfield, and have probably done more building/fabricating in the last 4 years than most of the rest of our members have ever done.
seems like most of the membership looked down on a few of us, because we dont have shiney new trucks/jeeps that we can drive everywhere. my wheeling truck, along with several other members also, dont have street legal trucks to drive. the only time they are seen is when they get loaded on the trailers for a long weekend of wheeling at an off road park.. so they consider us the "posers"

sadly, i resigned my officers position and left the club, i'm tired of the posers, know it all's, and everybodys BS in general. i guess i dont play well with others.....

Hey! My initials are BS. Everytime you guys say BS, I get the strange feeling that you're talking about me..... Have some sensitivity, OK? A "wannabe" is someone who actually wants to be. Remember the guy in middle school that everyone used to beat the hell out of? Well if he hadn't been there, I would have been him (maybe it would have done me some good). I am a complete failure. I have accomplished nothing in life. But I have always wanted a chance to do something. Dad used to tell me, "You're gonna grow up to be worthless", and it worked!

Oh,well. I gotta go assemble my new Harbor Freight cherry picker (the orange kind) ; hopefully it won't take more than five hours or so....

And I've always had sideburns (50 years now...) Guess I gotta shave 'em so the SPS guys won't think I'm a poser.
Good thing I don't have tats.

We got quite few real builders around here. Plenty of rat rods, rusto specials (my preferred - keeps the posers at bay :) ), and cars that have been magazine featured or in actual Hollywood movies. But, the builders know each other and the posers drive in, spend money and go home at the end of the weekend. We're all a bit richer for them :)
