I have a inline 6 in my 1970 firebird. it has P/S but no ac. I would like to put a aftermarket A/C system in my car. Like Vintage air. Does anyone make custom brackets for inline 6 motors?? Thanks I would need brackets for the style of compressor vintage air would supply..
I'm not sure about your particular situation. I've heard that the factory had AC used on some of them. Back in the late 60's and early 70's my uncle used to install aftermarket AC at his radiator shop. As I recall it the brackets came with a kit built for a specific application, although the under dash part was more or less generic. You might inquire from Vintage Air to see if they can supply the brackets.
try vintage air Part #15249-vcb if you have points or #15250-vcb if you have hei.You might call Vintage Air to make sure.
Try googleing Alan Grove components....their website is pretty good. The 235 is different than the 250 but you may be able to make the bracket work.
The 235 and the 250 are different and will not interchange for AC compressor bolt on. I have a 250 in my 36 Chevrolet. I put in Vintage air with parts from Vintage air. Theirs are brackets for the new inline six cylinders. I had to do some modifications to the brackets and idlers they supplied. But in the end, I was able to make it work.
If you would like...I can take some pics and pm them to you. Let me know. "Wasn't anybody there except me and Little Skeet"
I put A/C in the 52 Chevy that is running a 250- I6. Got the kit from OLD AIR in 2000..was pretty impressed with how everything fit and installed it under a carport in about 1 day as I had no garage at the time. I believe they are in Texas...used a Sanyo compressor and the bracket mounted on the left lower position under my alternator..I don't run a P/S pump tho'.....The heater/A/C combo under the dash wasn't real big and I believe that could be upgraded for better performance and maybe they have something different nowadays?? They kind of specialized in pickup A/Cs in those days I seem to remember and the smaller unit would probably be fine in a P/U..Good luck in your search
Do you have power steering also?? And yes, please pm me pics if you have any. I could always put a V8 in my ride, but this Inline 6 is a cool little motor.
235 stuff is totally useless for the later sixes... I have just finished developing A/C P/S & ALT brackets for the 250/292 engine, in stainless steel, but I don't have any in stock yet. My A/C is for the Sanden 508 and mounts above the distributor and works with any type of distributor and with either block height. Works with either thermostat housing also. The P/S mounts above the alternator (like the factory did), and works with any water pump, therm. housing, exhaust manifold, cylinder head, and even clears tripower. It uses the newer style Saginaw type II pump. The Alt mounts in the stock location and is compatable with everything. All brackets are fully adjustable front to back, so you can make them work with any 2 or 3 groove pulley setup. Only thing is that the A/C can't use the rear groove, it needs to use the second groove so the belt will clear the therm. housing. The stuff is so new that I haven't gotten any pricing figured out yet. Probably know more in about 2 weeks. I have also developed the same stuff for the '55-62 235/261 engines...
Yes! Keep me posted on the brackets for the 235. I'm running stock 62 PS pump brackets and an alternator on my 61 Belair and want to install AC. I'd love to just buy the brackets as opposed to fabricating them! PM pictures to me if you have them. Thanks!
I don't have pictures of the 250/292 stuff yet, as I haven't made them yet. Working on it... I have the prototype parts done for the 235. I have the A/C bracket in stock, but not the rest of it yet. You won't be able to just put on my A/C bracket without changing your stock Alt and P/S parts as well. It uses a dual grove water pump pulley and damper.
PM Me . I manufacture Sanyo style A/C compressor brackets for 216,235 and 261 motors. One bracket fits every thing from 1937 thru 1962 and it uses all the original pulleys and harmonic balancer. It also retains the orginal location and bracket for generator. It does require the electrical system to be 12 volts. I also have the A/C brackets for 230,250 and 292 late sixes. Thanks, Paul
