taillight treatment on Donzie's 49 Chev. it's hard to see in bare metal in these pics but if you look real hard... they are 41 Stude inspired bubble lenses made by Gene Winfield. i frenched them in just a bit (i plan to bring the lense out just a little more than it is here) and added a "detail" around the edges. opinions on the detail. man, i realy hate askin for opinions on here, but lets have it.

this is the frenched antenna detail. we are concidering 56 Olds headlight rims and the corrosponding peak in the top of the fenders but we would end the peak abotu a foot to a foot and a half back on the fender. i think this will all tie in real well together, but what do you think???

Ok, we need "honest" opinions here. Mike and I are having a little difference of opinion as to what looks better. Yes, it's my car but I respect Mike's ideas and sometimes I question my own. [IMG]
Here's a couple of photoshopped pics I did of how I'm thinking it should look.
I think the spears should be shorter on the top on the lense.

And the same with the antennas, shorter spears.

I like them both, but after seeing the second pic I agree, they should be shorter.

If you do the headites with a peak, they will match the taillites (or vice versa)...I don't think what you've got now needs to be changed...it looks good...and by the time you get a little mud over it it will lose some of its "hard edge". I like the taillite idea.

I added a peak and a "beak" to my bro's '54 Caddy headlite/front fenders...about two feet back and it came out looking good...I can e-mail you a pic or two if you'd like to see them.

I like the shorter spears on the tail lights, looks cleaner. The bottom of spear has a gap between the lens and the spear. how would it look if it was as tight on the bottom as the top, except make the spear longer on the bottom. Or fill in the gap so that the gap is flat with the spear. Either way it looks good. Nice work. Chaco

i would go with the fenders. they would look cool.

my honest and professional opinion would be to go with Don's photo shop ideas. i think it looks better with the tail lights being smaller on top and the antenna lips being shorter too.

i like the top of this one but not with the bottom. you would need to change both ends and make them similar to each other. here the top is all solid and raised but the bottom is open and has the lower section. know what i mean???

  23. The peaks in the head and tail lights are going the same direction as the car goes, they should be longer, as if the speed of the car is causing them to stretch.

I think the tail light "peaks" should be even longer and disappear into the fender gradually.

I'm think it would look quite good with no peak on the top of the tailight, so it is kind of teardrop shaped (like the other details) ?

  26. I agree with 4t64rd. They should be longer and fade off into the body. Although I do also think the antenna points shoud be shorter.

  28. frenched antennas look ****....oh, not that honest?!

I like the peaks around the tailights, but they need to be more pronounced and yet more subtle....if ya know what I mean!

Very nice work Mike. But IMHO size does matter and shorter is better.
If it was MY car I would make them shorter because it would bring less attention to them. When I look at a custom, especially one with nice flowing lines like that one has, I don't want to see something that interrupts that flow. And while they are a nice design element, I don't think you want them to jump out at you too much.
