am looking into a oxy/acet set up. central welding sells victor, harris, and their name brand.

ebay has a harris kit for 60.00. this would sell for close to 200.00 in the store. something seems fishy there.

anybody have experience with the harris stuff? or should i just stick to tried and true victor?

There are some real junk torch kits on Ebay. Instant fire engine visit.
Look for vendors that specify UL listed, with 2 stage regulators. There are some super nice imports in the $90 range on EBay that even include the rosebud heating tip. One seller has both Harris and Victor styles.

Im thinking more like this one, 4517857230, he lists the UL and regulator specs. Bottom line is that you get what you pay for.

Send them all EMails and see who answers your questions; I lean towards sellers who actually understand what they sell and arent just hucksters.

I have a Montgomery Ward torch, made by Harris, that I bought in new 1967. Still works fine. Just bought a couple of new cutting tips for it recently, works like new now. I also have a smaller Victor torch setup I bought about 25 yrs ago to use for gas welding body panels, smaller stuff, much less tiring holding it while gas welding than using the bigger Monkey Ward torch body. But I have gone through about 4 sets of regulators in the almost 40 yrs I have had it.

I have used them but unless they have changed the seals, they use rubber O rings and one backfire takes them out. I have used nothing but Victor for years now and have no trouble with them. I use the Victor Jr. handpiece for most stuff but I do have a journeyman that put on if I need to fire up the #12 rosebud or cut heavier metal.

I have used Harris for years, but the first time it need fixed it could not happen. The local store will not even look at them. The control is in the handle, not at the end like the Victor. Went to Victor works much better and can be rebuilt anywhere.

  11. I've used Harris stuff and never had any trouble with it.
Of course I don't know if they've gone down hill in the last few years. But it isn't likely. They used to be comparable to Victor.
