My buddy is rebuilding/redoing the 30 coupe he got off Spike(hotrodphotos),

He wants to run wires and bought a set of nice chrysler wire rims that have the same bolt pattern.

    They are 16x4 I think.

He wants those piecut blackwalls coker sells.

Will he have to have the rear rims widened? I think yes, but not for sure.

If anyone has or have had 16in. wires, what tires did you have? sizes? what were the rims?

This car is gonna have a smokin' sbc in it. And don't get your pannies in a bunch, it's a 62 283 .030 over, destroked, with 55 265 heads all redone with big valves etc. etc..using a fenton 3x2 intake.

I was also concerned whether wires will handle the power this thing is gonna put out.

    Thanks for your input.

    What size are the piecrusts?
'35 wires are 16"x4" (aren't they?) and I reckon you don't want to squeeze anything wider than 750s on such a rim.
I'd imagine that the wires - if in good condition - should be able to withstand the power of an sb.

I've never seen Chrysler wires. Have you got a photo?

He hasn't ordered the tires because he wants to make sure he can use them.
I remember the rears were gonna be around 30in. tall.

The chrysler wires he has are really nice. They look very similar to fords but have "bent" wires instead on straight wires like the ford.
I don't know what year they are supposed to be.

I've never heard of them either, but those having bent spokes sounds like he has (kelsey Hayes) wire wheels.

I've heard those are the ones to run if your running something in that type/size of engine or bigger.

I really can't say for sure. I know they are really old.

    And that they're chryslers.

I'm more concerned with what tire sizes can be used. And whether the rear will need to be widened.

    Thanks

    BTTT

    Anyone have any other input?

He looked at the rims today, and they have no markings.
Maybe they are kelsey hayes made for chrysler?
All I know is they are old and have bent wires versus straight like many ford's I've seen.

Dirty2, are your rears widened? or are they 16x4's?

    Thanks all

34-5? Mopar wires. These came off a farm cart, some had 700 x 16's mounted.
I also have some 33-4? Dodge 17" with the same bent spoke pattern.

6.50 and 7.50x16's for comparison. I dont think Id want to run 7.50's on those wires.

Fords have bent wires too. They are Kelsey Hayes, and when you find them, EXPENSIVE. Keith

Chrysler and Plymouth had 15" wires with a 4 1/2" bolt pattern in the early 50's. They looked similar to the Ford 35 wires. If that is what he's talking about, I'd guess they were 6" wide. The Plymouths had the spokes come almost to the edge of the rim. (not as cool looking) They were the hot lick for a few years in the 70's when resto-rods were in vogue. Wire wheels that bolt right up to a 9" rear.
