I'll be in Lubbock for a wedding this weekend, is there anything to do (other than drink and try to stay cool)?

    Lubbock, TX? Try Venice, FL!

The only nearby shows are the annual Billetproof and Turkey run, each over 3 hours away.

Other than that, we just get a bunch of old farts (the bad kind) who meet at the local Albertson's with their trailer queens. I do get a kick listening to them bitch about my shoebox, though.

Happiness is Lubbock in your rear view mirror, or so the song goes.

There is a giant Cotton seed mill there and they pile the stuff up in big mounds, the souvineer shops sell bumper stickers proclaiming "Ski Lubbock".

I went to school there in the 60's/70's. If you go to school there and can't figure out a way of having fun, then you're not trying very hard.
As far as something to do just dropping in for a weekend, sorry I can't help.
But thanks for the link to the Silent Wings Museum. I'll have to drive a couple hundred miles to check it out. My dad flew a Waco glider during the D-Day invasion.

Good place to go fly a kite. The wind always blows there. I lived there for about 35 years. Finaly gave up looking for something to do. Made a good living there though. When it came time to retire after working the same job for 30 year I packed up and got out.

This is funny because I am from Hobbs, NM and we looked forward to going to Lubbock because that was the closest big city. We could go to places like Olive Garden and a real Mall.

I'm working on my yard instead of cars for a change this weekend. You can check out my new home shop with a bunch of Fords if you get loose.

There are a few shops to check out. Hill's is a pretty impressive place to see.

The Amarillo swap meet is going on as is the Amarillo Mustang and Ford Show Saturday.

Yeah now everyone from Lubbock is going to Hobbs to the casinos!

  22. No longer true. The city finally went wet late last year, and the only convenience stores that don't have beer are those within 1,000 feet of a church or school. Plenty of full service liquor stores also.

In addition to the aforementioned Buddy Holly Center and Silent Wings Museum, the Texas Tech Museum and Ranching Heritage Center are well worth a look.

If you like your entertainment raucous, the Hub City Tattoo and Bikefest takes place this Saturday and Sunday. Bikers and rodders are invited to meet Saturday at the War Memorial on 82nd Street, then depart at 1 PM for Buffalo Springs Lake, where they can engage in a bike show ($1,000 prize), tattoo competition ($500 prize), blowout contest ($300 prize), and burnout contest ($150 prize), or just lay back and take in the wet t-shirt contest.

  23. Go to 172nd and S. University and knock on the door. Do NOT enter the yard without permission. Ask for Gene.

I'd avoid Hills. There's nothing traditional there plus the guys a jerk....Head down to the depot district....

  25. Looks like you're gonna get lucky with the weather, yesterday they were forcasting
110º for the weekend, today it's downgraded to 104º

That's a dry county isn't it? I think that's why all the liquor stores are way off the loop, outside of city limits.
