Man I love this state! After seeing a steady stream of horrow stories from folks all over the country about getting a title and registering these old cars we love I thought I'd share a success story. I've been working on my 46 ford coupe for 4 years now (only 2 when not counting all the time at the body shop) and needed to get it registered so I could get it on the road. In NH, once a car is over 15 years old it doesn't need a title. Good thing because I didn't have one as I built the car from multiple sources. I call the State Police to get a VIN assigned and a trooper comes down the very next day! He looks over the bill of sale and and invoices for engine, trans and in a few minutes I have a new VIN. From there I went to my town hall, registered it and got some plates, so now all I have to do is get it inspected. I did this with one phone call and 30 minutes of my time - including the trip to register car and get plates! The tropper was super cool. After he gave me the VIN he saw my motorcycle under a sheet and we swapped a few riding stories - he has Fat Boy and a Dresser. My brother-in-law doesn't treat me as nice as this guy did. I asked him some questions about inspection and he took a quick look at it and said I should be fine. I told him I had 3 point seat belts installed and he said I could cut them right out of the car and still pass inspection as they are not required in NH for a 64 year old car. NH is typically ranked at #2 or #3 in the country for lowest tax burden among all 50 states to boot. We even have a cool moto - "Live Free or Die". I know I used a lot of exclamation points but I'm so happy I can barely contain myself
not to hijack your thread , but i checked out your build pics( that car looked very familar to me) just wanted to say awesome job and kudos to the guy that that did the metalwork on that roof chop, very nice. As I pat myself on the back!
The car needed extensive metal work to say the least. Lenny and his crew at Chop Shop Customs in Woburn MA did a great job.
ya ,i know the car well, i had over 200 hours of metalwork on that one, the finished product looks killer
I think they go easy on us up here due to the fact that we usually only have 8 weeks of summer and not much time to use em!! Although we are gettin lucky this year!!
