Went to get my roadster titled today. Was riddled with questions about the 86 year old paper. DMV: "You bought this car from the guy who signed this?" ME: "No, it was signed in 1924. The title has been open for 86 years." Ins.Agent: "Is the chassis original?" ME:"Well, no. I built the chassis by myself in my garage." Ins.Agent:"Is there a manufacturer on the chassis?" Me:"Uh, no. I built it myself using the original chassis as a pattern, but the original chassis was too rotten to salvage and restore." Everything went through ok so far.
I'm just worried about making it around the block in this thing first. I think SanDiego may be a stretch right now.
I got one that hasn't been registered since 82. I haven't liscensed it yet but got the title changed from Kansas to MO and into my name. I told 'em that I was traveling through KS on my bike and saw it and bought it and its been in a friends barn since then. Now I'm old and want to drive it. Had to sign an affidavit. Of course I wouldn't have been able to pull off anything before about 1965 I guess. Oh yea Wicked glad its working for ya. Its quite a drive but stop by I usually have a cold on in the garage.
Mee too, I'll drink some for yah, Ice cold Hamms!! I drink the expensive stuff. Dealing with DMV is a pain sometimes, They should have a bar in the one in my town, it takes TOO long to get in. Happy Motoring> JOKER JASON!!
Congrats on it all going ok so far. Thats actually not too much of a horror story compared to others I have heard. Anything at the DMV is a PITA though. I do all my stuff through AAA. They just want your money ha ha. And Ill crack one open in celebration for ya.
Reggied my 26 Ford tub with a 26 ford coupe title from 1931.You want to talk about baffled at the dmv. How do we know this is the same car?Why hasnt it been registered since 31,on and on.After agent spent some time in the back with her super, she came back and said they needed a pencil etching of #s off the frame.Oh shit.Frame by me,body by Ford then me,and from Michigan, reggie from W. Virginia. Okay I say and go back home.Got me a set of # stamps.Pounded them in order on the bench, and for "authenticity" also rubbed the Ford script from my headlights next to it. Got my plates and paperwork, and an ice cold Molsons. Next its getting these 26 NY plates allowed to run on car.Better get a 12 pack!!!
Well I gotta a Pacifico here in Northern AZ, that's a Little closer! Gotta wonder why they ask questions when most of the time the answer will baffle them!
I'm having a beer now. For what it's worth the correct answer to any question a government clerk asks is "yes".
50 coupe, Did you not hear that the state of Illinois is pulling all titles on all pre war vehicles and soon to pull titles on all vehicles over 25 years, If you tell them you made your own frame you are most likely going to have to get a bonded title.
Titled my T Roadster with a 1923 Whippet title last issued in 1939. Still have the original... Stamped the # on the frame and rolled it out.
Now that's thinking with your dipstick. I posted this before but I still have the original purchase contract from my Grandads '24 Model T. I own the car now but I retitled it in my name when my Dad gave it to me. Also have the loan papers where he financed it. Yes - an 86 yo one family car.
i think your going to need an safety inspection and i bet springfeild dicks you around. here's what i am drinking right now.
