O/T '62 Ford Galaxie 500

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Big A, Jan 12, 2005.

  1. I stumbled across a '62 or (or '63?) Galaxie 500 2 door hardtop under 3 inches of dust in the back of a warehouse last weekend. Looks original and solid (I didn't pop the hood to see what's under there). Didn't ask a price (everything in this warehouse is for sale), and don't know anything else about it, but it's been on my mind for a couple of days now. I might go back this weekend for another look.

Anyone have opinions about these cars? Owned one? Things to look for or avoid?

I did a quick search on hemmings.com and they ain't cheap, but 60's cars aren't my forté.

Id jump on it , I really like the full size early 60's cars.

  3. I don't have the means to jump on anything, which is why I would like some more qualified info before I do something stupid.

    Found this shot on gassermadness.com...

    Hey,

one of the guys in my club has one that is slammed and he did some basic custom work and it looks great. They are also not super expensive so thats a plus.

I've owned quite a few '61-'64 Galaxies over the years. These are among my favorite cars. In fact, I have a '64 Custom (same as a Galaxie) that I'm working on right now. Parts are available through Dearborn Classics, Mac's, Dennis Carpenter and a few other aftermarket suppliers. All have websites. The repro stuff isn't as cheap as say a Mustang, but isn't out of range IMO.

The frames under pre-'65 Galaxies don't generally rust out, but I'd beat on it from end to end with a BFH just to be sure. Major rust areas are the trunk floor, particularly the crossmember that the front gas tank straps mount to, and the floorpans.I'd also check up front where the cowl vents come into the car and the radiator core support. Unless it's real rusty, I can't think of anything else that should keep you from buying that '62 if you want it. Lots of possibilities with a '62 Galaxie...period custom, muscle car, replica drag car or circle burner.

Ya, but there's no reason that it can't end up looking like one! Cool car.

  9. Thanks for the info. I'm going to go back and check it out again this weekend, see if I can get more details.

Is there an easy way to tell what motor is in it?

    Question:

Why did you label this thread OFF-TOPIC?

I fail to see why a '62 Galaxie is off-topic. [IMG]

  11. Just playing it safe, Don. I figure a '62 is getting a bit new-ish for the HAMB; it's an early muscle car, not a hot rod or custom; and I'm not a fan of all the "what's this worth?" threads. Which is also why I didn't ask what it's worth. I just don't know enough specifics about this year Galaxie, and lookin' for help.

Not too many people jumping on this topic, so I don't know if that's because it's labelled O/T, or not many people know or care about Galaxies, or maybe I've got bad breath or something? [IMG]

  13. That one with the roof chopped off is hilarious (no doors might get a bit tedious)... but that truck in the background is just wrong. [IMG]

  15. Missed his intro (I wasn't awake before 5pm on new year's day... [IMG] ). Looks like he's got some fun toys.
