Thanks for all the posivtive feedback guys. When I bought the car, if anyone remebers, I was very picky and took forever finding "the" car I liked. Thats why I chose Jeff's and I wanted something I didn't have to do much of anything to. And the only thing that has been done is bagging it.

As for the skinny whites, the only reason I haven't ran out and bought some is because I do happen to be a blue collar worker on a limited budget. I do plan on some different tires just to have something different to slap on it from time to time, but I also want a different set of wheels to put those skinnys on. I love Radirs and am saving up for some. But I'm not set on those either. And I do appreciate the helpful criticism. [IMG]

As for being traditional, man theres not but a select amount of cars on here that are actually, to the tee, 100% traditnally correct. I mean think about it folks, how many of you have cd players in your ride, or a set of radials, or if you really want to get picky, how many of you with pre-1955 cars are running 12 volts now instead of six? And I'm not just talking about '49 chevys and '50 Fords either, I'm talking about the rpu's that get built up from scratch as well.

Look, I say this, let people do what they want with their own ****. For the most part everyone here try's to color inside of the lines, but if someone comes on here wanting to know about running a tricked out Honda V-tech engine in their newly aquired, flat black w/red wheel "Rat Rod", then we may have to say something to him/her. it is your car now. If ya want to bling bling it now...that's your call. It is your car now.

Exactly - You are the one that will work your *** off to pay for the car, so if you want to put dubs on it fine just enjoy it. If these cars are not meant to be changed then put them in a museum.

The guys that "built" the car have long ago retired and probably are dead now.

  5. Congrats.

You don't want to see it changed? Buy the car from him! I'm sure he'll take triple what he paid it.

1Low - For what little it's worth...I think you have been all ****ing cl*** on this thread.

And the few of you who are seemingly trying to goad him into getting pissed need to shut your holes. Seriously.

the fenton wheels that smalltownspeed's selling would be a cheaper alternative, especially with some wal-mart cheapo whitewalls. i like having multiple wheel/tire combo's, kind of like changing from flip-flops to snow boots, you can't wear the same ones all year...mf

Yeah but his car has 5 on 5 (or at least should), so they'd have to be machined again.

I think he's done fine with the car. He's caught a lot of **** in the past but has turned out fine. All grown up and ****...

I agree that is a bad*** car. While I love traditional stuff and would keep a historic car pure ( ie. a barris original, a Valley Customs, etc.. It cracks me up when some one goes into the "This stopped at this time, Those are the wrong_______" Do you think that when those guys built those cars they stuck to strict rules? THey were going for a style and there is was alot of ways to obtain that style. If anyone remembers there were some ugly *** cars built by using what everyone was doing at the time. There are still some ugly *** cars being built today by doing whatever is "cool". THe key is if they like it then more power to them. IMO Some people have the vision but most don't. Sam Barris did, Cole does, Foose even does. I truly believe that if Sam or any of the rest of em would have had 20 inch wheels they would have used them sometimes. The point was to make them look lower and larger rims do that. I believe that there are instances when you can stay true to a style and still use things available after 1963. I feel modifications should enhance what is already there, not distract from it. These of course are my opinions but so is most of whats on here. As long as he give credit to the builder who gives a ****. He saw a beautiful car and was able to get it. Is Kurt McCormick a poser for buying all those old Barris cars? And just a side note, customs and lowriders were the same until the late 60's and the first man to put hydraulics on a car was a fellow named Manual Ateche I believe on his "Kustom" vette. And I might be wrong, I'll have to look tonight but I think Barris did work on that car. TECHNICALLY if 1LowSabre had put Hydraulics on his car instead of bags it would be period correct. Bottom line is unless someone is claimimg to have done something they didn't and it's in a traditional flavor I don't see the prob. I probably wouldn't bring some stuff up on here because I don't feel like listening to the narrow minded idiots. Not trying to start **** but have felt this needed to be said for a long time.

    My 2 cents.

" Is Kurt McCormick a poser for buying all those old Barris cars?"

not at all (i know that was a rhetorical question), he was, and is, a smart, p***ionate car guy. he's invested a lot into the recovery and restoration of 'his' cars, and the reward is for all of us. that they exist at all, especially in the condition he's willing to put them in, is a testament to his knowledge of the history and signifigance of the cars he now owns.

most cars go through lots of changes in their lives, and rarely is something done that irreversably ruins it. if 1low's buick survives the next 50 years and is restored by some future enthusiast, who knows what version will be used. maybe the one with the flux capacitor and anti-gravity suspension...(oops, that hasn't been built yet) mf

if you are talking about the x-sonic ...it was built and owned by ron aguirre out of riverside....not manuel arteche .....manuel was a well known upholsterer from northen california......

and 1load is the one who says his car is '' full 60s traditional custom''....not loosely based on a 60s custom ...... [IMG]

as much fun as it is to rib 1Load at times,
i would like to apologize since i feel resposible since i started this thread, its been bothering me today,,

first of all,i was "suprised" (for lack of a better word) seeing you posting on layitlow and secondly suprised about the mentioning of your car coming out in a magazine, since you never said anything about it here on the HAMB,.none of my buisness in reality,,and thats just it sometimes its easy to forget that the words on the internet are typed by real people.
your car is cool and you should feel honored to have it featured in a magazine. regardless,it IS your car..

and i do apologize for my constant bashing of OL SKOOL RATRODZ..i have my personal reason (a**** other less important) for disliking the magazine but i will not go there...,.,but,i may even buy the copy with your car in it when it comes out.

    anyways,congrats on the feature.

  23. If 1lowdipstick wants to it paint green with pink stars who cares! It is HIS car now. It looks great and good on ya for a feature even if it is in OSR/Bo Huff Monthly.
How many "traditional" cars has George Poteet had featured? He didn't turn a wrench on any of them. Give it a rest.
There is a place for guys like him around, besides comic relief. SOMEBODY has to buy the cars when we are done to fuel the next project. Think about...once I sell a car, it is out of my mind. I got a wad of cash burning a hole in my pocket, and he has whatever I didn't want anymore. Think of it as the hot rod circle of life.

Ive never seen the car til this thread. Its a *****in ride. I wouldnt change the www for nuthin. Congrats on the feature. As for the mexican blankets, I run them and so do many other people. Who cares what other people think, its your car. And it was your money that bought it. so you didnt put the work into the build, you put the work into job that paid for the car. There are plenty of other pieces of **** cars on the HAMB that I hate, and everyone else love.

Your absolutely right Lownslow. I realized my error last night and saw you already pointed that out. I guess I had Manual on my mind becase I just recently looked back at his G****vine clone. You guys get my point though. Ron Aguirre is some BigWig at lowrider mag now I think. Another Thought on Whitewalls past 1960. I found many pics last night of cars ( 60's, 61's, 62's.) in shows in the 60's with wide whites, usually on chrome steelies. Most higher end models came with wide whites from the factory then which you can see in most adverti*****ts from then. This probably explains the eventual switch to skinny whites on customs to stay different, just like all the factory stuff on new trucks these days.

1load [IMG] Jeff said to give him a call when ya have some time, and congrats too. He's happy for ya.

And I'll say again, I was with that car from the 8degree night we pulled it from the old mans place, through the entire build.
As a matter of fact, that car wouldn't be gold/orange if not for me. He was leaning another way, and I convinced him that with the interior color that those colors were the only way. Ask Jeff, he'll confirm that.

That car drew mad response everywhere it went from local shows to a few national shows he attended.

So, Gallaway, don't sweat it. The only opinion that matters is yours. It's yours to do as you wish.

    Congrats. [IMG]

  30. Hey is that the same buick that was in R&C either last yr or the yr before and had bags are for grocies on it somewhere. well any ways i think it's still a bad *** buick. as for it havin a spread in Ol' skool rods sometimes they do have bad *** cars, i fell in love with what his name's silver n red merc with the 54 chevy grille in it.yet they do run alot of cars in there that have no place in a magazine.i wish one of my rides had a spread in it.My 50 was in the mooneyes x-mas show for 2003 in there which surprised the hell outta me. but yeah thats just my two cents
