66 390 galaxie auto trans upgrade

i need help advice regarding installing a newer OD auto trans in a 66 galaxie with 390 open to all options something like the GM 700R4 4 speed auto with lock up converter whats the ford equivelent and where can i get the adaptor plate if needed

Then put a pre '94 Ford AOD (non electronic, Thunderbirds, Crown Vics, F-150's, etc) behind that FE and be happy!!

 

That's excellent info! Are Fords of that era metric? ie; would I need to take both sets of wrenches to the pick a part?

 

Yes, bring both, Ford was notorious for using standard bolts on the components they ***embled, and metric stuff on the parts they payed someone else to ***emble.

 

ive had other advice to go with the GM 700R4 "more performance, strength and flexibility."????

 

I used an adapter from Wilcap in Pismo beach, CA to put a 700-R4 behind the 428 in my '62 Galaxie. It's a really nice kit and reasonably priced.
