I am wondering who here if anyone is running a 403? I have the chance to buy one and not for sure what I should do. I have never really messed with any olds motors and really don't know much about the performance. Any help would be greatly appreciated. :D

Very good torque motor. Just don't rev it past 5000, the windowed main supports will crack. They can't be bored over .030 for a rebuild because of thin wall castings. Run a cam with around 112 deg lobe separation and it will pull stumps.

You can modify some 350 Olds heads by drilling out the head bolt holes for the larger 403 head bolts and raise the compression ratio.

Look at the side of the block. If it has 403X on the side it is one of the apx 500 high nickle iron blocks. Most were sent to the midwest as a test for the 350X deisel block material.

I have one 403X block set aside for a build.
