Flathead OHV Heads

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by hemisteve, Jun 4, 2010.

  1. Can anyone identify these from the poor quality pics? I have an opportunity to buy some NOS OHV heads for what I believe fit the V8-60 flatheads. I can't tell from the seller's poor pics but I think they are the Argentina built Simca OHV heads. I'm hoping to get them complete with the valvetrain and covers but I'm fighting with a serious language barrier as the seller is in South America. If anyone has some insight I'd appreciate the help.

BTW, there are apparently 6 sets available - I am working on bringing all of them home.

It would be nice to see a pic of the combustion chamber. If there in S America how'd you find them and how would pay for them? Lots of scams out there be careful. If they are V8-60 heads I'd be interested in a pair if your selling!

There are several videos on U-tube of one of these engines.

Good luck! I hope it works out for you.

  7. These are all the pics I could get so far. I found them through an in depth web search for Simca parts after seeing another Hamb thread about the little V8-60 and it's subsequent use in France and Argentina by Simca. Not sure on the security of buying from there but I thought I'd see if I can find a fellow gearhead down there that may be able to help.

I'm almost positive they are the Simca OHV heads designed for their update to the old Ford V8-60 but need some more details - hopefully the seller can send me the requested info and pics so I can confirm what he has.

I believe these OHV Simca heads were made in Brazil rather than Argentina.

  9. Yes, I believe you're right. I think Ford had plants in Argentina, not Simca.

    Steve,
HAMBer fairlane2k from Portland, Or imported more than one of these engines from Brazil in 2004-05. He is married to a gal from Brazil and found the engines while on a trip there. He works for a major engine rebuilder in Portland. He got one engine running and showed videos here on the HAMB. Haven't seen him on the HAMB in a long time. He also imported some heads which he sold to Midget racers so apparrently the bolt right to a Ford V8-60. God luck with your venture.

Yes NO DOUBT AT ALL those are in fact Emi-Sul heads from Brasil. (and only BRASIL)
Made by SIMCA,originally....Chrysler bought SIMCA durring the time the Emi-Sul was in production...the Engineer for the project was a Frenchman living in Brasil.

Im sure the boys at Chrysler were not fond of building Hemis based on FORD blocks..however I have been told that one or two were brought here for testing & evaluation for the American market.

I would be interested in a set of these heads depending on availability and price!

  16. Unfortunately, they're not going to be cheap - seems that vintage cars and parts in SA are very expensive. I should be able to get them home for somewhere around $4000 Canadian (about $3800 US) a pair. I'm working on a secure way to get them shipped here - might actually fly down myself and arrange all the crating and shipping personally (it's a pretty big investment).

Isn't there a few guys on this site from Brasil? I know it;s a big country but maybe they are willing to help out a bit?
I read there's a lot of car nuts down there.Later model smaller rear drive designs with alcohol inline 6's.That and the women..............

  18. Update - looks like these will be coming home sometime in the fall - hoping to have them landed here in Edmonton by the middle of October at the latest. I managed to secure one complete pair (including valvetrain) and 5 sets of bare heads with rocker covers. I'm still working on finding the balance of the valvetrain parts for the 5 bare sets but, man I'm thrilled! Can't wait to get 'em here! Now I just need to find a good V8-60 to run them on...

  21. I ***ume you are looking for someone that speaks Portuguese. Are there any Brazilian restaurants where you live? Probably not since you are pretty far north. There are several in Los Angeles and about half of the staff usually speaks Portuguese.
