Never expected to find this on a canoe trip.

My friend and I were canoeing and found this:
We are near Nashville TN, and this was after the huge flood. It was clear at some points the water had been 15 foot over our heads. I'm not sure if this had been here for years or had washed down. It's clearly been under water for a long, long time.
There was still furniture and even garages washed down the creek, so there's no telling what the story is. I wish I knew it. Can anyone identify the year by what's left?

just a little insight on how that car made its way to where its at. years ago they used to plant cars on the sides of rivers sideways as flood control. this was obviously before epa regulations

From the pix, it doesn't seem all that rusty to me. I'd guess it's from the recent floods. Gary

 

The grill and the blinkers look like 1955 Ford to me as well.

Absolutely certain here, '55 Ford. The parking light housing alone is enough to ID it. I have a '55 that my parents bought new.

 

I talked to a friend that has canoed the river before and he said the car has been there as long as he can remember. I suspected mid 50's ford or merc, but it was a wild guess at best.
Maybe if I keep looking I'll find a 32 ford in fully restored condition along the bank (with a flathead) preserved from the elements by the aura of awesome that surrounds it. I'll let ya know when I find it.

To late, we pulled it out this morning. Three jon boats and two trolling motors. Weird thing was the keys were in it and the gas was still good, drove it home!

 

A 55 FORD? IF IT WAS A BOWTIE IT WOULD HAVE SWAM HOME. AND NOT GONE ... (.)(.) s UP.

 

Cars from the '50's along riverbanks in flood-prone areas is very common, esp in the south. I remember taking a canoe trip with my dad 30 years ago on the Red River in KY and there were all kinds of cars along the sides. I remember what was left of a '55 Chevy sedan and I still have the grille emblem I removed (while sitting in the canoe) from a '60 Chevy.

 

I've seen quite a few along riverbanks in the southeastern U.S.

But when I was living in the northwest, I remembering finding so many off of the sides of curvy canyon roads...especially all over the Lake Tahoe area.

get some fresh gas and see if it will turn over !

 

there about 50 different makes in a creek up north from me that the guy that owns the junk yard his father put thee for that reason

Actually ,living in this area,I've seen what floods do to cars. All that debris floating along hammers them good.
I was riding some back roads this morning on my motorcycle.you would be amazed at how much farm land got turned into a gravel pit.

 

Hey poncho, there used to be a group of them along the Russian down by Mirabel Park holding back the bank, and down by Steelhead beach.
