I can get a great idea for something on my roadster project. I can picture it in my head and plan it out in great detail. Then I can spend hours actually doing it. And then, the moment it is completed, I realize why I shouldn't have done it...Why it was a really dumb idea. I always thought I was a reasonably smart individual, but this is beginning to shake my confidence.

You're not stupid...It sounds too me like you don't think things through enough, you jump into things too quickly...BTW, you obviously are looking for some kind of attention...I guess I am the stupid one for giving it to you.

That is called "the learning process".

You don't know what you really can do until you try, and you don't get good at anything without practice.

    Keep practicing.

A very successful "tuner" (I hate that word, sounds like a ricer, but you know what I mean) once told me that the guys who make the biggest horsepower have the biggest pile of broken parts.

Actually, the post was meant to be humorous...I thought some of you might get a chuckle out of my screw-ups. I agree with the "learning process" comment. Oh, and I can't blame it on anyone else...They all have alibis.

Main thing is, always try to give yourself and out. Most people think " If in doubt, do without" My coach kept saying "Keep running that play till you get it right" A lot of better ideas come from failed attempts. I've ended up with better ideas by learning from the first. The more you try, the better you get. Keep trying and never give up.

Legend has it that Thomas Edison made 1600 failed attempts at creating the incandescent light bulb before he was finally successful. Someone asked him if he was sorry that he had wasted so much time on the failed experiments. His response was "No, now I know 1600 ways not to make a light bulb".

I want pictures! Or at least a brief description of what you did that qualifies you as stupid, Stupid is actually high up the rating system, there are a lot of things you could be before you deserve the rank of stupid. Stupid is half way to genius.

If building a hot rod was easy, you would see a shit load of em every day, but you don't, so that tells you it is only easy on TV...

The only way you never mess anything up is if you never do anything. Now get back out there and fuck some shit up!

    See ya, -Abone.

  18. I heard a similar story- that Li'l John Buttera's trashcan was full of "almost perfect" junk.

That's why you need a torch and grinder as the first tools you buy.

Not stupid, just learning by DOING. It is how the folks ahead of us learned.

Thanks guys...I needed that. And now I'm gonna go out to the garage and screw something up.

  23. We all do. Plus one persons crap might be raw material for the next. A good pal of mine builds cars and race chassis. I have untold piles of brackets/tabs/cutoffs that did not meet his standards. It costs him money to cut say the tab back off a piece of tubing. Not doing it to make money I can salvage his fuckups!:)

My current problems aren't really photogenic. Besides, I don't want to leave any unnecessary evidence. Right now, I'm dealing with a transmission mount that's about 1/4" from where it really needs to be. Then, I need to deal with a large hole that I foolishly cut into my firewall. There are other, smaller screw-ups that really don't merit mentioning.

  27. GO FOR IT. Keep trying, because one time you'll stumble on an idea that's much BETTER, and maybe no one has ever thought of before. Makes it all worth it...

I was always told if you screw something up and you catch it, it was an over site, but if you screw something up and the boss catches it, it was a f#*k up....
